Matt Ford, aka DJ Format, c’est l’une des références du hip-hop britannique. Vingt ans de carrière, des albums fondateurs (Music For The Mature B-Boy, If You Can’t Join ‘Em... Beat ‘Em), des collaborations avec Jurassic 5, Edan, Mr Lif, Phill Most Chil — et une règle d’or : vinyl only.
Mais derrière le b-boy se cache un vrai chasseur de sillons. En 2021, il sort Devil’s Workshop — un album instrumental aux ambiances cinématographiques, puisant dans le psychédélique, le jazz, le folk, le rock et les bandes originales, loin du hip-hop qu’on lui connaît. Il compile également sa série Psych Out : une plongée dans les strates les plus obscures du garage et du rock psychédélique 60s.
C’est exactement cet autre DJ Format qu’on accueille à la Mess My Mind. Cette nuit-là, il range ses instrus boom bap et plonge dans ses caisses de 7 » pour en sortir du garage psychédélique, du freakbeat, du funk et du rock sauvage — la même obsession du sillon, une autre face du disque.
Un set de chasseur de vinyl. Pas de setlist. Juste des 45 tours qui claquent.
