I’m Dan Ross. I started DJing when I was 13. I was obsessed with music, speakers, cables, plugging things in, building the rig, packing it down, and doing it all again. The confidence with crowds came later. Fast forward and I’m 30, running this full-time in the UK. Weddings. Events. Private parties. Weekends grafting. Weekdays fixing the business so the weekends don’t feel chaotic. I’ve: • Built and run a DJ business • Run an event management company • Created an outdoor dining experience during covid that saved my ass • Built @planning_beats to help other DJs grow Oh and…. • Fucked things up • Fixed them • Learned the hard way I have learned that DJs don’t fail because they’re bad DJs. They fail because no one ever shows them how to run things properly. So this page is me sharing: • What I’ve learned • What I’m still learning • How I think about DJing as a business • How to create better events without losing your sanity Sometimes it’ll be music. Setup day. Tomorrow I start DJing… This one runs 10:30am – 6pm. A bit different from the usual late night wedding dancefloors I’m used to. DJ’d and hosted a wedding this weekend in what used to be a prison. Definitely one of the most unique venues I’ve worked in. Stone walls, old cells, loads of character. It ended up being a really cool and intimate celebration. I hosted the day, handled the music throughout, and then finished it off with a proper little party in the evening.
