Hello! For the last few years, Iāve been working with a team of researchers at University of Washingtonās Center for an Informed Public. I have consulted with them from the inception of this project, working to strengthen survivor-informed care, protocols, and practices. I think that this study is important because the way we talk about abuse and trauma matters.
In a world gone viral, abuse and rape myths are often weaponized into disinformation, to deliberately influence public opinion. We often see this during high profile abuse cases, in ways that are not fair or constructive to the victims, harming them along with public health. Even when it is not deliberate, it still has an impact.
I firmly believe that culturally-informed education and resources surrounding abuse and trauma save lives. Mis/ disinformation especially for profit harms them. This study aims to hypothesize how these harms and outcomes might be reduced.
I am grateful to be working with a team that understands the importance of implementing survivor-informed practices. I believe studies like this create opportunities to let survivors and those who work with them lead and provide their critical expertise.
I speak for all of us on the team when I say thank you to the generous and insightful participants for joining us on the journey.
Thank you to all for engaging with this work. We hope to spark conversations about this output and our future work.
