Without your guidelines , I wouldn’t have been able to win this competition. An Unforgettable Night 💫🌟 A remarkable milestone has been achieved in my journey—last night, I was honoured to receive the Scottish Media Award in the Independent Media category for my article published with @greatergovanhill , where I was also featured on the cover photograph by Stefan Krojcik @skfoto.co.uk . My heartfelt thanks to the entire team for creating a platform that enables voices like mine to be heard, and for supporting stories that reflect lived experiences with honesty and depth. To me, every category represented a victory—each nominee and winner is doing vital work, shedding light on important aspects of our society. Yesterday, we had a wonderful afternoon supporting our community. Our dedicated volunteers prepared and shared fresh meals with individuals who do not have access to kitchen facilities, are experiencing mental health challenges, or face limited access to essential resources. Our group of volunteers prepared a Zurbian is one of the best-known traditional dishes in Yemeni cuisine, especially associated with the southern city of Aden. It is a fragrant rice dish made with lamb or chicken, potatoes, saffron, fried onions, and a rich spice mixture. It is often described as the “Yemeni biryani” because of its layered rice-and-meat preparation and aromatic spices. Through our community meal sessions, we aim to introduce different cultural foods, helping to raise awareness about diverse cuisines and the stories behind them. I live with cerebral palsy and use a wheelchair, but I have never let my circumstances define the limits of my potential. 🎨♿️ ​For five years, I worked relentlessly to secure a postgraduate study opportunity abroad—a pathway to independence and dignity. When the war began, those dreams were shattered. Survival replaced study as my daily reality. My home was destroyed, and I have faced constant displacement under bombardment, often left behind during evacuations because my wheelchair made escape impossible. ​Against all odds, I have received two unconditional offers: ​🎓 MSc Interaction and Experience Design, University of Limerick, Ireland 🎓 MSc Film‑Making and Media Arts, University of Glasgow, UK ​This is not just an academic achievement; it is a lifeline.
