1969 - Built in East Germany as the Boltenhagen, a Kondor-class minesweeper constructed for service use. She was one of a series that would later be acquired by the Malta Armed Forces.
1970s - Entered service with the Armed Forces of Malta as the P29, forming part of a trio alongside sister vessels P30 and P31. Used for patrol and maritime security duties in Maltese waters.
2007 -Decommissioned and deliberately scuttled on 14 August 2007 off Cirkewwa, approximately 150 metres offshore. She was prepared for diving before sinking: superstructure openings were cut, the hull cleaned, and access points created for safe penetration.
Today - The P29 rests perfectly upright on a sandy seabed at 34 metres. Octopus, scorpionfish, and bream have taken up residence in the interior spaces. Visibility at Cirkewwa regularly exceeds 25 metres, making this one of Malta’s most photogenic wreck dives.

110m tanker. 36 metres. She’s been lying on her starboard side off Wied iz-Zurrieq since 1998 and there’s no single dive that covers all of her. The propeller, stern, engine room, cargo holds, each one earns its own dive. Visibility regularly exceeds 20 metres.

A 100-metre Panamanian steam passenger ship sunk by an Axis air raid on 19 April 1941. The Margit lies listing to port in Kalkara Creek on the eastern side of Grand Harbour, broken and silted, carrying the weight of eighty years of wartime history in water that rarely exceeds 10 metres visibility. The draw here is not the scenery. It is the scale, the stillness, and the knowledge of what happened above. #malta #underwater #scubadiving #travel #divemalta

The MV Scotscraig: a 22-metre patrol boat that served as a prop vessel on the 1980 Popeye film set, now resting upright in the sheltered waters of Anchor Bay, Mellieha. One of Malta’s most characterful and least-dived wrecks.

The Um El Faroud after the storm. The bulkhead has been lifted on top of the deck. It still remains and stands defiant. One of Malta’s most requested guides dives. 110-115m in length sits proud at 36m of Wied in-Zurrieq. Visibility regularly exceeds 20m. Guided dives run regularly. Small groups.
