A Time Machine to 1999 💃✨
I went to Unspeakable Joy today at 3 Dollar Bill for their “House Classics” party, and I wasn’t prepared for how hard the nostalgia would hit.
In the middle of the dance floor, I heard just two notes of the Whitney “I Learned from the Best” remix being mixed in, and I completely lost my shit. I was screaming before the beat even dropped. Aceves was like, “How did you know?!”
I knew because that song is the sound of my sisters, of endless weekends, and of a time when the world felt like it was ours. It was the soundtrack to those blurry nights at the Roxy and Splash, and the unforgettable energy at Rich’s and Montage in San Diego.
Standing there today, I had to fight back tears. It made me mourn our youth and the power we didn’t quite know how to use properly back then. Most of all, I just missed us… me and the PPG’s.
It was a total “Tea for Tias”—4 PM to 10 PM—dancing with so many familiar faces who have been there since the beginning. We might be dancing a little slower now, but the joy is still just as loud.
