South Devon friends! I hope everyone’s well! 🪶Just wanted to share a ramble I am running this Sunday 17th May. It’s not your typical long distance walk and instead quite a slow one. The focus is on slowing down to enjoy natures details, through active observation. If you have a camera, bring one as there will be photography tasks to carry out, but don’t worry if not or if you’re not used to photography, a phone camera is perfect and everyone is welcome 🌱
This walk will be part of my dissertation research, studying how actively slowing down can adjust the human perception on ecological time so please enter with an open mind, or if you don’t want to take part in the survey, you are still very welcome to come along 🌻
It will be at @dittiscombe Rewilding site, near Slapton, so if anything, it’s a great opportunity to see the work that is going on there and meet the wonderful Ruth and Jon.
🪲 Meet at 10:00 at Dittiscombe Estate, near Slapton, it’ll take approximately 3 hours but come and go as you need.
🪱 Wear appropriate footwear and clothing for changing weather and terrains

Big shout out for Traditional Orchards on a @bbccountryfile report last Sunday. And what a beautiful celebration we had in ours for our Orchard Blossom Day. We heard, saw and identified so much wildlife. Lizard, Whitethroat and Blackcap, Orange Tip, Brimstone and Holly Blue butterflies, bumblebees, parasitic wasps and rove beetles. Our privilege on Earth Day to observe the emergence of an Angle Shades moth from a crinkled and squashed pupae to fully formed smooth beauty, ready to fly. Seems like it’s been a long winter so the first paddle around the Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuary today was sheer joy! Paddled up Collapit Creek to maybe see the ospreys which have recently been visiting this waterway (sadly no sighting today), but plenty of hedgerow blossoms, fresh oak leaves, winter lashed driftwood, lichens and shells. Literally there are thousands of violets, celandine and greater stitchwort flowers along this 50m sunny bank. All ready and waiting for the pollinators and of course beautiful for us to look at.
