Over the last couple of years I have been fortunate to spend quite a bit of time exploring the west coast. It is a magical part of the world. It may look just like a hill in the middle of an Irish field, but this hill is actually an ancient burial chamber that dates back to more than 5000 years ago. The mound is surrounded by 115 kerbstones some of which you can see in the photo. In the area you will find 3 large megalithic passage tombs of which Newgrange is the most famous. This passage tomb is known as Dowth or the 'Fairy Mound of Darkness.' It's free to visit and free of crowds. Who has had the chance to visit some of Ireland's ancient passage tombs ?
