Hi @diskolinee here! 🫶🏼 I want to take you along with me through parts of my creative process in the next few posts—starting with something I always seem to come back to: hands. When I scroll through my photo library, I notice how many images of hands I’ve collected. Without really planning it, I’ve built a little archive. It makes sense—especially with my most recent project, where I’ve been working with my grandmother. My grandmother was one of the first professionally trained female chefs in Denmark and worked in kitchens all over the world. In this project, I wanted to preserve some of the knowledge she carries—knowledge she never wrote down, but preferred to teach me instead. So, I did what I’ve always done: stepped into the kitchen with her, watching, listening, and learning by doing. Her hands were the way in. The way she stirs a pot, chops an onion, rests her fingers on her hip while tasting the soup—all of it holds a kind of memory. Through her hands, I was able to connect not just with her skills, but with her story. The act of cooking together became a way to preserve our bond, her experiences, and the quiet rituals that have shaped both of us. This project is something I will keep working on in some way, which is where I am now—figuring out how to approach the next chapter of it. Here, I wanted to share some visuals from the project itself, a few sketches I’ve made along the way, and other ways I’ve been meditating on hands as vessels of memory and knowledge-sharing. I am so lucky that I am working with @ringelpress on a book that will be the first chapter of this project! All the best, Oline❤️

We are very happy to introduce you to our next Insta Take Over by Oline Nordengaard @diskolinee 💫 Oline is also our wonderful assistant at NW Gallery & The Project Room @nw_gallery_cph and we so much appreciate her and feel very lucky for having her on board our team ❤️ Please follow and get inspired by her artistic practice and process ❤️ In her own words: “I’m Oline Nordengaard (b. 2001), a Copenhagen-based photographer currently studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. I work across photography, video, text, and bookmaking, exploring themes of care, memory, and intimacy. Rooted in everyday life and familiar spaces, my practice reflects on how relationships and environments shape identity and belonging. With a tactile, reflective approach, I aim to capture the emotional textures and quiet rituals that define how we connect with ourselves and each other." “Structure of a recipe” 2024 This project explores intergenerational knowledge-sharing, celebrating how hard-earned skills are preserved and transformed through teaching. It reflects on tradition, the evolving roles of women, and the legacies they create. Inspired by a woman who shaped my life in her own odd and loving way, it highlights resilience and creativity as forces that transcend time. Many years ago, my grandmother was one of Denmark’s first professionally trained female chefs. As I grew older, I became fascinated by the connection between the woman who cooked for me in her home and the woman who worked in professional kitchens worldwide. What began as an attempt to learn a few cooking tips evolved into a deeper reflection on our bond. As part of this project, we recreated her tomato soup recipe together—a nostalgic dish of my childhood. The process was chaotic, shaped by her ADHD: stories intertwined, tips were forgotten, and improvisation took over. Through this shared chaos, we connected. This journey was documented through a video accompanied by still images that capture moments of intergenerational connection. By revisiting her recipes, playfully trying on her old chef’s uniform together, and reflecting on her past, I honour her resilience and preserve the legacy she has built.
