Once a vast naval supply yard, Royal William Yard is now one of Plymouth’s most scenic and historic waterfront spots. Just across the river sits Cremyll, and beyond it, the beautiful Mount Edgcumbe Estate — a peaceful slice of Cornwall with sweeping coastal walks and centuries of history.
The Cremyll Ferry has linked these two shores for generations — a short crossing, but one that’s connected Devon and Cornwall for almost a thousand years.
Throw in the boats at Mayflower Marina and views up the River Tamar, and it’s easy to see why this stretch of water has always played such an important role in local life.

Thank you to the Mercure hotel in Paignton for a wonderful night at their outstanding new hotel.
The quiet bedrooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and boast incredible views of the bay.
Staff at the hotel go to great lengths to make you feel welcome and were friendly and very attentive - a real credit to the hotel.
We enjoyed an exquisite meal in their ‘Latitude 50’ restaurant, which has an inviting, vibrant feel and food which is some of the best we have ever experienced.
The front of the hotel has a generous terrace, where you can enjoy your favourite beverage and food, again with spectacular views of Torbay. We had white wine and cocktails as we watched the world go by.
