🎉 Disability Arts Online (DAO) has appointed disabled and neurodivergent theatre-maker, playwright and social justice activist, Kate Lovell (@katejlovell ), as our first ever Artistic Director! Kate is an established arts leader joining us from her previous role as Co-Creative Director at @queenstheatrehornchurch . Her practice spans directing, dramaturgy, writing and creative producing, with a focus on collaboration, disabled representation and creative access. As our Artistic Director, she will take creative leadership of DAO and will co-lead the organisation with our CEO, Trish Wheatley (@dao.trish ). This new Artistic Director role was created because our founder Colin Hambrook has moved into the role of Heritage Project Director of Cripping Culture, after serving more than 20 years as Editor. Kate has a longstanding relationship with DAO, starting in 2015 as a participant in a disabled writers development programme. Since then she has been a regular contributor to our magazine and podcast, and was our magazine’s first Guest Editor in 2018. Read more on our website 🔗Link in bio Video description: A blurry image on a textured teal background, with white text below that reads: Introducing our new Artistic Director. The blurry image slowly comes into focus and the text changes to Kate Lovell. The image is of a white woman with black, round glasses and long brown hair sitting on a red climbing frame wearing a blue, white and brown tartan dress with black leggings looking into the camera and smiling. The image then disappears and white text on a teal textured background reads: Find out more at disabilityarts.online/magazine/news.

🎙️ In the latest episode of Disability and..., Joe Turnbull chats with Ben Pettitt-Wade, artistic director of @hijinxtheatre , about their celebrated show Meet Fred. Now on its 10th anniversary UK tour, Meet Fred follows a two-foot-tall puppet navigating a world full of barriers – from the job centre to everyday life and draws a powerful parallel between a puppet’s reliance on its puppeteers and the support networks that many disabled people rely on. 🎧 Listen in full on our website on via your usual podcast app.
