Start of the year with new work and live broadcast for Czech Radio, Vltava @crovltava Excited to be performing with Johana Ožvold, @ne_konecna aka Orinoko and @never_sol Performance at the wonderful @sal.hranicar Usti nad Laben. Curated by Martin Ožvold and Ladislav Železný. https://vltava.rozhlas.cz/zive-oslavte-1000063-narozeniny-umeni-a-pustte-si-do-zivota-trochu-zvuku-z-usti-9585736 Music for Radios (2026) The radio is thought of as not only a one-way vehicle of communication, but a two-way transmitter and receiver. Bespoke electronic devices, quasi-instruments transmit frequencies (EMFs) that are picked up by radios in the performance space. An electromagnetic field is created. The performers improvise with and within this field. The work also explores sonic wayfaring, where performers become wayfarers responding to the perceptual and material characteristics of the environment they move through; they pause, meander and take influence from the specifics of these places. A third dimension of this piece is how this field or environment is represented on radio. Microphones are placed in and around the space to capture different sonic perspectives and idiomatic qualities of location. A form of inverted sound diffusion takes places as the sound is mixed down for radio. #sonicwayfaring #noisemusic #radio #peformanceart #diyelectronics #dirtyelectronics #emf #sounddiffusion

Devastated to share the news that was broken to colleagues at @uonmusic (and other departments) at @uniofnottingham yesterday. This is obviously a very difficult time for us and our students. Please contact us on [email protected] if you would like to be involved @ucunion - - - - - - - - Full statement text below: On Wednesday 5 November, the very same day the Prime Minister publicly reaffirmed the importance of music education, staff in the Department of Music at the University of Nottingham were informed of the immediate suspension of recruitment to all undergraduate degree programmes. This announcement precedes proposed plans to permanently close all Music degrees at the University. This decision threatens to end over a century of music education in the East Midlands, offered continuously since the University opened in 1881. Across that time, the Department has educated thousands of composers, researchers, performers, educators and other creative professionals. Its graduates have taken up leadership roles within the country’s leading arts organisations, fostering creativity and growth within the UK’s dynamic creative industries. It remains a centre of world-leading research, using music to explore and address complex societal and global challenges. The Department is deeply embedded in the local community, working with schools, music hubs, community groups and venues. Its closure would not only dismantle a thriving academic and cultural institution but also severely diminish musical life and future opportunities across Nottingham, the wider East Midlands and the nation as a whole. As staff we are devastated, especially on behalf of our students, but also for the future of music education and research in the UK. We remain committed to advocating for the value of Music programmes at Nottingham and beyond. If you share our concern and wish to support efforts to protect music education at the University of Nottingham, please get in touch with [email protected]. Your voice can make a difference. Come join John Richards Sunday 2nd on Earday #7: Sonic-Wayfaring! JR is best known for his work as Dirty Electronics that is concerned with the performance of large-group electronic music, DIY electronics and critical making. It is mainly a fluid, live practice associated with the ideas of workshop-installation and performance-installation. As Dirty Electronics, he has created sound devices for various arts organisations and festivals, most notably Mute Records. He has also written numerous texts on DIY practices, performance of electronic music, and material approaches in relation to sound art. This edition of Earday invites you on a journey through sound, space, and ritual. Sonic Wayfaring brings together composers and sound artists John Richards (Dirty Electronics), Ladislav Železný |_ |) |\| , and Martin Ožvold (FSME 840, FAMU) for a day of encounters that blur the boundaries between workshop, performance, and installation. Wayfaring, as Tim Ingold writes, is not about moving from point A to B, but about dwelling in motion — tracing paths through the world rather than hopping between fixed points. Each step, pause, or sound is part of a continuous weaving. In sonic wayfaring, listening and sounding are not destinations but paths: a way of inhabiting space through resonance, entanglement, and intimacy. More on fb event. Schedule 14:00 Rituel de purification - introducing Sonic Wayfaring 15:45 Tea & cookies 16:00 Roundtable: Towards politics of diffusion working in the dark, sonic wayfaring, entanglement, unplayable, radio, filters, installation, Dream Houses - from Acousmonium to Rainforest 18:00 Performances & installation with John Richards, Martin Ožvold, Ladislav Železný Workshops will involve both practical and theoretical dimensions: from cleaning-as-ritual and intimate sonic gestures to lectures and demonstrations that merge research and pedagogy with performance. Tickets Full day (workshops + performance): 250–350 CZK Performance/installation only: 150–250 CZK

Earday#7: SONIC – WAYFARING This edition of Earday invites you on a journey through sound, space, and ritual. The day unfolds gradually – from shared preparation and conversation to collective listening, ritual cleaning, and an evolving performance environment. Intimacy, noise, light, and darkness intertwine in chamber-scale explorations of sound diffusion, trust, and critical sound design. Visitors are invited to join the process: participate in roundtables, experience sound in unusual situations, and witness how workshops transform into performances. Expect multiple turntables, diffuse electronic sound sources, moments of silence, tea and cookies, and the unexpected. Join us for a day of sonic exploration where the boundary between preparation and performance dissolves, and sound itself becomes a way of moving through the world.
