It was an absolute honor and privilege to have my law school grad photos captured by the incredibly talented @bexxfrancois — I cannot recommend her enough for grad photos. The product was more than just fun photos for IG. I now have keepsakes celebrating my achievement of graduating law school that I will cherish forever. Bexx (& shoutout @directedbyaidan with the assist) is not only clearly talented and dedicated to her craft, but she also made the shoot the best experience I could have imagined. She was prepared (provided me with a mood board, scouted locations, etc.), communicative, supportive, and made me feel confident and comfortable for my pictures. If you want to book with Bexx, please DM @directedbyaidan Price starts at $599 for grad photo shoots, and it is worth every penny. #Gradphotos #laphotographers #uscgradphotos #uscgraduation #usclaw

The Shop 1500. Years, fears, tears, and triumph wrapped up in one place. It has meant the world to me to bring this project into fruition. The ability to serve others/one’s community is the ultimate gift one can receive. I’m honored to have been able to see this project from beginning and I’m humbled to know it hasn’t end with @gio.green15 and I. This is beyond grit, will, luck, and belief… The Shop 1500 is love šŸ–¤ šŸ“ø: @stevengphoto

Lol this a long one… It is a great pleasure and honor to announce the construction of The Shop 1500! To think that we got to this point, I’m awe struck but also humbled in our power/resilience as well as the power of black people as a whole. While these mock-ups are just now gracing the physical, we’ve been dreaming, envisioning, and manifesting this since the locker room as well as every step in the way.

When we first presented the idea… impossible. When we started doing the pop-up and the music was too loud/vulgar + the Minnesota Barber Board shut us down, a come back?… impossible. When we got the permit from the barber board, moved spaces, kept going and got featured in a documentary with literal legends, athletes that inspired me to hit the field… getting a permanent space?… impossible. Well, standing on the balcony of impossible a different moment comes into mind. This past summer I snuck my way into the VIP of the @theshopun live tour event in NYC and received some of the best advice from @brownie_blendz and @mavcarter (which I had to slip that selfie, I never asked but the moment was too much for me šŸ˜‚) but they both simply said ā€œbet on yourself.ā€ You’ve come this far… šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø. I felt the weight but didn’t know how important talking to them was for this project.

So anecdotes aside, I am honored to bring this project to my campus. Gio and I have always sought to have a space that is accessible to everyone, namely black women who probably would have never seen a hair salon pop up in this area. That said hopefully, The Shop 1500 also serves as a beacon for those facing the same struggles wherever they are. One that says not only is it important to incorporate black people/people of color into spaces (higher ed, corporate, etc.) but in doing so, in creating spaces meant to foster community helps everyone, helps create connections and understanding and ultimately, love for one another. I think that is something desperately needed right now in our society. But yeah, can’t wait to provide more details soon and get the finish product rolled out!
