Born in the Mississippi Delta and now based in New Orleans, Addie E. Citchens is a graduate of Jackson State University and studied at the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Oxford American, Midnight & Indigo, Mississippi Folklife Magazine, and more.
She is the inaugural recipient of the Farrar, Straus and Giroux Writer’s Fellowship, and her award-winning short story “That Girl” received the prestigious O. Henry Prize.
Her debut novel, Dominion, explores how the church creates heroes and monsters out of men — and how sometimes the two are impossible to tell apart.
Dominion also received starred reviews from Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and BookPage, and was longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and shortlisted for the Willie Morris Award, among other honors.
