#throwbackthursday to my very first meaningful and magical performance art in my homeland, Indonesia, April 2025. It is a movement-based performance exploring the journey of my transitioning, shedding the expectations of my past self and letting them die and arriving in a rebirth that is fluid, embodied, and free. This performance was a ritual liberation, honouring death not as an end but as transformation, a celebration not of what gender is, but of what we are when we are finally free from naming it. . . I was so blessed and honoured to have met and worked with all these creative, brilliant, goofy, weird, kind and talented artists that I got to call my friends and family in Yogyakarta. Thank you so much for creating this space for me to share my story and to have an impactful experience in my transformation. It will always stay as a core memory in my queerest heart. ep. 5 'the t on transitioning' gender(less) expression, cultural contexts and trans grieve on this episode, we are spilling the t on transitioning: we talk about how we relate or not to it, and how transitioning has its fluid shapes and meanings for each person. BTS of “𝐀 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚” in Yogyakarta, March 2016. Last year, the universe brought Charmaine, Arel, and me together in Southeast Asia and it led us to shoot “𝐀 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚” in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It was a very deeply joyful and heartwarming experience to create this fun and intimate project with two bold, kind souls I’m lucky to call my friends. @psxcharmaine being directed by you showed me that fierceness and tenderness can exist side by side, where I feel safest to explore and grow. Thank you for seeing me, challenging me, and holding space for every emotion and every wild idea I bring. @asarela.dewi having your eyes and present behind the camera has been such a healing and freeing experience for me. For the first time, I felt I could move unconstrained, play, breathe, and just be while being in front of the camera. Thank you for being my safest gaze and calmest guide throughout it all (and my gojek driver too). This experience has moved and expanded me, deepening both my artistic exploration and my understanding of myself(s). And I am in love with them even more <3 I feel so grateful to share this story.
