One particular moment touched my heart. After the show, a beautiful little girl had her mother seek me out to tell me that my story moved her, then asked to take a picture with me. That meant more than I can fully express. Beautiful inside and out! She may not have understood every word or every layer, but she felt something. And that is the power of sharing our stories. Storytelling creates connection. It builds empathy. It helps us see ourselves and each other with a little more grace. Moments like this are why we share. Thank you to This Is My Brave and Carla A Carlisle | Kateesha A. Blount | Sylvia Stitt Smith | La Becky Roe | Ebony Rao |Jennifer Moxley | and every other unnamed volunteer who poured time, heart, and service into making this experience possible. Including the rest of the dynamic snd courageous storytelling cast that I was privileged to be a part of Kelly R Little, Eleanor Norman Shelll, Tawanna Wilson, Shara Clark, Meeka Clark, Sunnee D, Melody C. Gross, Keith Kendrick This event was Sponsored and Produced by The Office of Violence Prevention and ReCAST II (Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma) within Mecklenburg County Public Health which are working to improve community resilience by shining a light on lived experiences, increasing access to mental health treatment, and reducing community violence. Community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and program partner She Dreams In Color Foundation also make this year's show possible. @poseitupclt for the awesome Photo Booth experience!! #ThisIsMyBrave #StorytellingMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #CharlotteNC #DionneHunter

Still reflecting on the 2026 VA Black Film Festival Not only was our film screened and honored, but we also had the privilege of sharing space with true Black legends. To be in the room with Lifetime Achievement recipients and pioneers @msdaphne13 / Daphne Reid, and Keith David, along with the just as incredible @timreidsr , all of whom helped shape film, television, and storytelling as we know it was powerful. What moved me most was not just their accomplishments, but their spirit. They were kind. Grounded. Gracious. They carried decades of excellence with humility. That alone spoke volumes. There was something deeply affirming about celebrating our work during the 100 year observance of Black History Month while standing alongside those who paved the way. It felt full circle. It felt sacred. Moments like this remind me why we do the work. Representation matters. Legacy matters. Community matters. More reflections to come. Onward. Hope Healing Triumph 2026

I am truly grateful for this beautiful review. It was an honor to serve as the spoken word artist for such a meaningful Mother’s Day Brunch and to share words that celebrated the strength, sacrifice, love, and resilience of the mothers in the room. Moments like this remind me why I do what I do. Poetry has a way of reaching the heart, creating connection, and leaving people with something they can carry beyond the event. Thank you for trusting me with such a special occasion. I am deeply appreciative. Your friendly Neighborhood Poet Author Dionne D. On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending another beautiful art gallery showing at Gallery 51 in Uptown Charlotte, an extraordinary venue led by Executive Director Lisa DeMarco. I want to encourage everyone to support this amazing woman, and the incredible artist @maylen_garciad and the creative spaces that are being built in our community. There is something powerful about being in rooms where leadership, and purpose are all moving together. What makes this weekend even more meaningful is that just a few days earlier, I was in the emergency room on Wednesday and Thursday dealing with terrible migraines. After an IV drip and some much needed care, I was blessed to be able to show up, connect, and be present for these beautiful moments. I am so grateful for the new connections I am making, the ones I have already made, and the ones still waiting for me on the road ahead. So, if I could leave you with one sentence of encouragement, it would be this: hold on, do not give up, and keep putting one foot in front of the other, because even when the path feels heavy, you are still moving toward your destiny. Remember to love on yourself. In a world filled with stress, manipulation, and uncertainty, hold close to the love that remains steady. The love that flows from the Most High, and the grace you are called to extend to your own heart. Give yourself patience. Give yourself forgiveness. Give yourself peace. You deserve to be loved on, and cared for with all the same tenderness, you afford to others, so easily. Just a note from your Friendly Neighborhood Poet, Author Dionne D. My mom passed away when I was seven years old my brother was four and my sister was 2 so we don’t have a lot of pictures of her, but we do have a lot of love for her and we miss her terribly. I always think of the relationship we would’ve had as we all made it into adulthood, unfortunately that version of our lives wasn’t meant to be, but I definitely do feel like she still looks over us all.. She absolutely still loves us and when she was earthbound, she showered us with strength, encouragement and undeniable love and it resonates with each of us even now. So to my mom, I personally say happy heavenly Mother’s Day.

My deepest apologies. Last night I ran into several issues and was not able to perform during my allotted time during BOOM Charlotte’s shoreline theater even though they tried to accommodate me and anyone who knows me knows missing a performance is not in my nature! Fortunately or unfortunately, in this instance, I’m booked to perform at private events (today, which is Saturday) and I’m hosting a private event Sunday so I can’t making out today so to try and make up for the inconvenience and because I believe in their mission I made a donation to the cause, the festival overall, it’s future endeavors AND the artists in general and humbly ask that you do the same! Boom Charlotte is such a dynamic, beautiful event that deserves all the positive energy it can garner. So please use the link below to donate to Boom Charlotte’s 501(c)3 at your convenience. And again I send my apologies to anyone who stopped by to see me and I wasn’t there.. Thankfully though there was a full roster of talented artists on deck!! /get-involved#Donate-To-Boom
