This Chawan bowl is inspired by the concept of the โStages of Grief,โ which refers to the emotional and psychological processes that occur when facing various forms of loss. These reactions are a natural human response to grief. This work expresses the stages of grief through the face of a monkey, an animal known for its complex emotional intelligence and remarkable ability to convey feelings and emotions through facial expressions in a way that closely resembles humans.
The bowl presents the emotions of the โStages of Griefโ through three distinct monkey faces placed around the bowl:
Face 1: Denial and anger โ the refusal to accept reality and what has happened.
Face 2: Bargaining โ negotiating with the situation in an attempt to avoid sorrow. Face 3: Acceptance and letting go โ embracing the truth and releasing attachment to what has occurred.
This Chawan bowl serves as a medium to reflect the human spirit, the journey toward acceptance, and the process of self-healing, with an emphasis on โletting goโ and guiding the mind toward tranquility through the tea ceremony and the mindful moment of drinking tea.
