All aboard who’s coming aboard! Introducing Ferry Commute — “a display face for the open water”. Actually we would understand if you’re not on board with this one, Ferry Commute is not for everybody. In fact, we completed this typeface as a private commission for a client based on the hand-lettered logo on the side of the Staten Island Ferry.
Resident type boss @dingbat.co handled the glyph and font creation and cringed just a little every time I asked him to break another long-held type design rule. We tried to keep it as loose and wonky as possible while still functioning as a display font with the potential for solid legibility at smaller sub-header sizes.
