Dear Nanny Zareena,
I don’t even know how to start this because I still can’t believe you’re gone. My chest feels heavy and my heart feels shattered. I just keep thinking you’re going to reply, or I’m going to hear your voice, but I know I won’t, and it’s killing me.
You weren’t just my nan, you were my safe place. You knew me in ways no one else did. You always found a way to make me feel loved, even when I didn’t love myself. You were the one I could come to with anything, and you would tell me straight exactly how you felt about it.
I wish I could hug you one more time. I wish I could sit in your living room with you, hear you laugh, hear you sing a random song to me or make one up on the spot , and just be near you. I wish I told you more often how much I love you — though I know you always knew.
Thank you for every single thing you did for me. For the love, the advice, the laughs, the discipline when I needed it, and the unconditional care that never wavered. I’m so proud to be your oldest and only granddaughter and so happy I got you to be my nanny.
I hope wherever you are, you’re at peace. I hope you’re surrounded by love and light, and I hope you can still see me and guide me, because I’m going to need you more than ever. I can’t even explain how much I’m gonna miss you because it’s bigger than words.
