“Behind Curtains” spiega bene il contesto in cui nasce la musica di HOLM. Il trio strumentale zurighese si è ritirato dal mondo esterno per concepire la sua nuova opera. Le tende sono quelle chiuse, attraverso le quali sbirci per vedere cosa succede fuori.
Dimitri Käch, Alessandro Giannelli e James Varghese costruiscono una narrazione nostalgica e introspettiva, camminando attraversano paesaggi urbani desolati, prima d’accedere al loro laboratorio musicale nel sottosuolo di Paradeplatz e osservare la collisione tra la cultura del fai-da-te e quello del lusso delle boutiques e dei fatturati bancari miliardari.
Holm è anche un tentativo, messo in musica organica e fisica, di dare risposte alle questioni esistenziali del musicista professionista.
Con “Behind Curtains” (Quiet Love Records), Käch, Giannelli e Varghese hanno affrontato il lento blend di post-rock, ambient e shoegaze da una prospettiva sonora diversa, meno filtrata questa volta, con un suono più definito e “vicino”, lasciando fuori, come sempre, ogni preconcetto e abbracciando la spontaneità👌

Erinnerungen an lichtdurchflutete Tage, nebulöse Nächte und eine Leere, die sich wie eine warme, steppenartige Landschaft im Schwarz verliert.
Improvisierte Ideen und Stimmungen werden zu Songs im Bunker unter dem Paradeplatz; DYI Kultur trifft auf "too big to fail" Relevanz.
HOLM is our island.
Die Suche nach einer Form auf die alltäglichen, existentiellen Fragen des Daseins als Musiker*in und Band. Vielleicht: Ein freundschaftlicher, nicht rentabler, kreativer Austausch, bei dem alles möglich bleibt.

Christmas is coming closer and we hope you don’t belong to the people who are stressed out over it. Hopefully you get to spend the holidays with your loved ones and have a couple of relaxing, restful and refreshing days off. In that spirit we present to you Dimitri’s solo contribution to our upcoming album:
„Like Currents“ emerged during a recording break, without bass and drums, just guitar and delays. In a moment of calm, the trams passing overhead and the hum of the amplifiers were suddenly audible. A few harmonics and warm chords, distorting delays. A door opened, then closed. Then the journey begins, through the city, rattling and scratching, winding through the streets. A ride through past days, past places and corners where all the stories and memories greet you. And onwards to where the future lies, into the twilight, into a new year.

It begins with dark chords, then a three-tone bass figure and brush-played drums lift a deep Telecaster melody. Light shines through the shutter and casts shadow images on the wall, dancing with the wind. "Faint Outlines" is a play between clarity and doubt, an uprising, a shadow play that ultimately dissolves into post-rock-tinted black.
For us it's a classic HOLM-song in the best sense. Hopefully it's one for you as well!

There’s a reason why this will be the opening track for our upcoming album! It captures a very specific aspect of HOLM-ness 🥰
On „Sunlit Afternoons,“ the asphalt shimmers, and the sun reflects brightly and distortedly in car windows, young leaves on trees glow light green—it’s spring 2023, and HOLM descends into their bunker rehearsal room for the first time in a while to write new music. After a few notes, the chorus is there: a strummed guitar melody over a distinctive bass riff with clicking drums. In pop structures, an inner dialogue develops, a quiet side-by-side of bass, drums, and guitar. Full of warmth and light, but not without conflict and melancholy. „Sunlit Afternoons“ conveys the mood before a moment of great change and the accompanying emotional rollercoaster of uncertainty, anticipation, and confidence.

Es passiert selten, dass ich mich an eine geträumte Melodie beim Aufwachen noch erinnern kann. Bei der neuen Single #wanderlust aus dem Logbuch von HOLM war dies der Fall. Es ist ein einfaches Stück mit Cowboy&Cowgirl Chords, die ich noch immer mag, weil sie etwas Kindliches und Nostalgisches an sich haben. Wir haben dann das Stück schnell aufgenommen, zwei Takes mit unterschiedlichen Beats. Da ist es.
