Today, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Lewis Road supportive housing community in Ventura County alongside an incredible group of public, private, and nonprofit partners.
This community will provide 80 private homes alongside supportive services to people experiencing street homelessness in Ventura County. Located on county-owned land within a larger wellness campus, this site integrates housing, behavioral health care, and community services.
Projects like this take real partnership. We’re grateful to @countyofventura , the @cityofcamarillogov , @goldcoasthealthplan , @many_mansions , Ventura County Behavioral Health, @lifeark_ , @rrmdesigngroup , Angeles Contractor, Inc., and the many organizations helping bring this community to life.
More updates to come as the site begins to take shape 💫
Five years. 12 communities. More than 800 doors opened across California. 🏠
Our partners at @gensler_design are reflecting on what they've learned designing supportive housing with us, and why urgency and dignity are not in conflict.
We’re grateful and proud of what this partnership has made possible. We look forward to continuing this work together.

This past weekend, the San Luis Obispo community showed up for future residents of Welcome Home Village. 💙
Through our Adopt-A-Room program, volunteers set up bedding, pillows, blankets, welcome mats, and gift baskets — turning newly assembled units into spaces that feel like home before a single resident walks through the door.
The people moving in won't know who set up their room. But they'll feel it.
Welcome Home Village opens in early June. We can't wait to welcome residents. 🩵

Grateful to the partners helping make it possible, including the @california_hcd Homekey program, the County of Ventura, and @goldcoasthealthplan .
More updates to come as construction on the new community begins!
Last weekend, volunteers gathered in San Luis Obispo to assemble furniture at Welcome Home Village. These final touches help ensure that each unit is a welcoming, livable home for future residents.
Grateful to @livingspaces Visalia, the local faith community, and everyone who showed up to make it possible.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare to welcome residents in June!
How do we know if we’re making progress on homelessness?
Permanent supportive housing is essential. At the same time, if we’re working to reduce street homelessness, we also need to understand how many people are coming indoors and how quickly.
Both matter.
In this conversation on the @thevoicesf podcast, @efunksanfran shares how rethinking how we measure progress can help communities move forward more effectively.

Saying “yes” to housing means addressing the full spectrum of need. That includes building more homes and creating pathways for people currently living outside to come indoors.
Grateful to be part of a broader movement working toward more inclusive, abundant communities.
A year later, Dignity Village Modesto stands as a testament to the impact of collaboration and community engagement. We’re so proud to be part of the partnership behind this community and thankful to everyone who continues to help it grow and thrive!
What Do You Say, Freya and Natasha?
"Affordable housing and homelessness" matter deeply to Freya Estreller, and “K-12 STEAM education” to Natasha Case. They are the married couple who co-founded Coolhaus and now serve, respectively, as COO of @dignitymoves and CEO & Founder at @lunchbunchcf . Swipe for their powerful words, and their full quotes below:
Freya:
"Unsheltered homelessness. Full stop. In Los Angeles, people are living and deteriorating on our sidewalks. The longer someone stays outside, the harder and more expensive it is to stabilize them. It starts with getting people off the street quickly and with dignity - into safe interim housing before their health declines and they become deeply entrenched in the system. We know how to build faster and more cost-effectively. What’s missing is urgency and political will. I want my kids to grow up in a city that does hard things, acts boldly, and treats its most vulnerable neighbors like neighbors."
Natasha:
“K-12 STEAM education in Los Angeles must reflect our city’s capacity for innovation. Creativity and technical skills are not separate; they are essential for the next generation of thinkers and makers who will define our future. We must be responsible, committed, and organized in our approach, ensuring the effective deployment of the significant capital already allocated to this mission. Our children deserve nothing less.”

One of the biggest barriers to ending street homelessness is the belief that the problem is too big to solve.
A data-driven approach helps communities understand the scale of need, identify housing gaps, and plan for solutions that are practical, targeted, and sustainable.
Data alone is not the answer, but it can help communities move from reacting to planning and from planning to action.

A year ago we came together with partnered agencies to bring the first Bridge Housing Project, Dignity Village Modesto to our community.
We’re honored to continue this work and look forward to welcome residents in providing safety, privacy, and dignity along with access to wraparound supportive services that will help the residents with stability in their journey towards permanent housing.

In his new article for the Larchmont Chronicle, DignityMoves board member Jon Vein makes the case for acting early and fast, before a housing crisis becomes something deeper and harder to unwind.
That is where interim housing plays an important role: bringing people indoors quickly, cost-effectively, with dignity and on-site support while permanent housing catches up.
If we want to reduce street homelessness at scale, faster and more practical pathways indoors must be part of the response.
