Super resolution is the fascinating process of deriving high-level detail from multiple, temporally different images. When you zoom in on a diagonal line on a pixel grid, you eventually lack the pixels to represent it perfectly, often resulting in "blended" or gray pixels along the edges. By taking the differences in those sub-pixels across various frames, we can infer sharper lines and hidden details.

Before founding DigitalFilm Tree, CEO Ramy Katrib experimented with a Sony DSR-2000 deck and the new DV Cam format. After convincing an engineer to write a custom driver, he used Final Cut Pro version 1 and Film Logic to edit film dailies.
The breakthrough came at Magic Film and Video Works, the largest independent negative cutting company in America. When they cut the negative based on the decision list Ramy generated in Final Cut, the results were spot on.
This revolutionary discovery – that high-end film results could be achieved outside of dedicated systems – is what inspired Ramy to start DigitalFilm Tree just a few weeks later.
