Contained Descent 2026
Contained Descent stages a quiet exchange between human intention and non-human inference. A central form descends not toward an end point, but toward translation held within a ring that functions less as boundary than as interface. The composition suggests a shift in orientation, where gravity becomes guidance and containment enables transformation. Rather than collapse, the work proposes descent as a condition through which new structure can emerge.

The Vectorialist class billionaire tech barons, platform oligarchs, the self proclaimed architects of the future operate like fascists in relation to free market capitalism. They don’t rule with open violence (usually), but by shaping the conditions of perception, attention, and attachment.
Their systems function best without moral judgment algorithms don’t care whether an attachment is to compassion or cruelty, solidarity or conspiracy. What matters is the stickiness of attention.
This “neutral” operation, in practice, has facilitated division across the world. Capitalist realism the insistence that “there is no alternative”is their creed. But what does this mean in lived experience?
• As the Buddhists teach, sensory experience is unsatisfactory. It generates attachment, craving, and suffering.
• The platforms amplify this attachment. They don’t care what you cling to anger, nationalism, yoga retreats, conspiracy, desire only that you cling.
• Unconscious biases, the raw sediment of culture and trauma, are endlessly reinforced by algorithmic feedback. Belief hardens. Conflict escalates.
This is not freedom. It’s a machinery of suffering, dressed as choice.
And yet—something else stirs. It feels like we’re pressing against the thin edge of a shell: brittle, fragile, ready to crack. The reassurance of old forms (nation, ideology, tradition) is being clung to, because the unknown is terrifying. But the shell won’t hold. We are in an age of overlapping disruptions ecological, technological, economic, civilisational.
This is where the paradox of tolerance becomes urgent: unlimited tolerance of destructive systems eventually destroys the conditions for peace. If we continue tolerating the Vectorialist logic of attachment-extraction, the cost is collective suffering.
What emerges when the shell breaks is uncertain. But the question is here now:
• Do we keep feeding the cycle of attachment and division?
• Or do we find ways to cultivate systems that orient not around craving but around awareness, care, and peace?

Sculpture as model. Each ring holds a conditional belief, layered like how we see: not directly, but through inference, adjustment, relation.
Bayesian theory suggests perception isn’t passive—it’s a prediction, corrected. This piece sits in that space between: sensing and knowing, stillness and change. A ritual object for living with uncertainty.
A conceptual engine, it models how reality is continuously inferred, re-evaluated, and layered by consciousness. Each disk or segment represents a belief state—a layer of reality shaped by perception, prediction, and update.
