Flipped a $.25 record for $1000!
About a month or so ago I wandered into a local pawn shop just to kill some time on a slow afternoon. They happened to have a large tub of records and I can’t pass up an opportunity to dig. Typically, these are stuffed with Connie Francis and Barbra Streisand type records but I started seeing a bunch of 12 inch house and hip-hop singles as well as a ton of funk and disco records. The guy mentioned they were selling them for $.25 apiece so I quietly grabbed about 30 of them. When I got home I found that there were a lot of of $20 and $30 records and a few for as much as $80-$100 so I went back to dig a little deeper and just grab anything. When I went back it looked like there were more than the last time and found some more gems. On my third trip back I mentioned to the employee that I noticed that the box was being filled back in and he said yeah, every time you buy a bunch we just take more from the bin we have in the back. I asked him if he could bring that bin out and I ended up buying a total of about 120 albums. This was one of the very last ones in the collection that I priced out and I was floored when I saw what it was going for. I put it up for sale and within four days it sold!
