I’m back from @chinkapincraftstead — my first artist residency! Such a beautiful place and such a sweet thing to be supported in so many ways by my community new and old. I’ll have more work to share from my experience there over the coming weeks but for now I just wanna share this dump of vibes and logistics from my time there. I’m thinking a lot about am*rica and politicians, and the impact our words (do and don’t) make, the unbearable futility and radical hope and possibility in front of us. This pic is a completely unrelated serve but I wanted to share something I’m super proud of— in May I finally took the New York Peace Institute’s basic mediation training. Since then— with the financial and moral support of so many friends I was able to sign up for the next stage of mediation training with NYPI. This afternoon I completed my apprenticeship assessment! I won’t know if I passed right away but I feel good about it!! I’m so lucky to get to learn about conflict and how to hold space for it and help people hear one another more clearly through all our differences and complexities. This skillset has already come in handy in so many moments. I still have practical training to complete in the months ahead but I’m so jazzed to keep learning and be able to do more and more of this work. I truly feel like I’ve unlocked a toolbox that will make my life and the world better. NYPI is an incredible resource and institution that offers free mediation and alternative dispute resolution services and training to New Yorkers. Highly recommend reaching out to them if you are looking to move through a conflict with anyone in your life. I’m really passionate about sharing the learnings I’m getting out of NYPI with my community (that’s you) so if you’re curious about mediation and alternative dispute resolution I’d love to talk! Eternally grateful for everyone who’s egged me on as I’ve walked this path. Unsure exactly what this work will lead me to but I truly believe wherever/whatever it will be will be more peaceful, collaborative and interdependent.
