Process]
When it comes to art; even more so, music; even more so, rap; I love the process.
From inception, all the way to point of sale, the process of creation is truly fulfilling. Watching other artists create is a close second to that feeling and a lot of times, a teacher of sorts.
Where do you go to be informed about the creative process?
Are you ever able to witness it like in the clip above?
Where do you find discussions that center the music, the creation of the music, and the messages in the music?
Where do you get context about schools of thought on: writing, literary devices, concepts and song structure?
The music industry is changing quickly and drastically; Is there anywhere you can go to hear the artists’ perspective on those changes?
What is hip hop medias roll in providing these perspectives to you?
I would hope you had concrete answers to those questions. If you do please put me on, although I am of the opinion that there aren’t adequate answers or platforms for the questions asked. My frustration with hip hop media(as well as my constant complaining) has lead me to doing something about it.
B-ROLL is a show that aims to be the answer to all the questions above. Taking hard looks at these questions, the answers and discussing the difference of experience and opinion amongst each other, is an integral part of every artists’ journey. It seems a shame to me that those parts of the process are not exposed to our fans to see, hear, or engage with regularly; and the lack of context creates a disconnect between artists and fans the less folks understand what it actually takes.
From a fly on the wall perspective, B-ROLL will show you exactly what it takes. Consisting of: discussions between active artists, irl vignettes of the creative process, in studio recording, and the sharing of tips, skills, insight, commentary and schools of thought from the 1st person perspective of the artists.
