As one of the most successful football players of all time, Didier Drogba has earned worldwide acclaim both as a professional sportsman and champion for peace in his native Côte d’Ivoire.
Drogba moved to France from Côte D’Ivoire at an early age, becoming years later a well-known and very successful football player.
From France to the UK, to Turkey to Canada, he has received many honors through his career.
Twice named African Footballer of the Year, Didier Drogba won 104 caps for the Ivory Coast, amassing a record 65 goals making him the country’s all-time top scorer. He also led the nation in three World Cups after their first ever qualification in 2006. Following this qualification, he asked that the country bring an end to the civil war and was named by Time magazine in 2010 as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for his humanitarian work.
In 2018, in the continuity of his commitment to peace, he was appointed Vice-President of the International Organization Peace and Sport.
President of the Didier Drogba Foundation, Goodwill ambassador for several causes, board members of organizations, Didier Drogba has been using his worldwide well-known name to positively impact his environment.
Aware of the importance of sustainable development, Didier Drogba and his foundation are actively committed to this cause. The place of Africa in this debate is fundamental; it is with this in mind that many projects are underway.
When Didier Drogba speaks, it carries weight.
Not simply because of sporting success, but because he has demonstrated how influence can shape national moments and calm division.
It is a privilege to have him introduce Beyond the Ballot. He embodies a truth at the heart of this book: leadership extends beyond office. It rests on credibility, responsibility, and moral authority.
