What they don’t always see is what goes into every decision, every step, every route: assessing risk, reading the snow, studying maps, connecting with local guides, and constantly thinking one step ahead. Being a mountain guide isn’t about removing risk, it’s about managing it, sharing knowledge, and making the best possible decisions in a complex environment. It’s challenging. It’s rewarding. If someone asked me how I’d summarize my life… It’s not really the usual path. No 9–5, no fixed routine, no long-term plan fully figured out.
