Bryce Lim (Class of 2025) presented the Squishy Vase Collection at this year’s SaloneSatellite during Milan Design Week. Using 3D-printed moulds and experimental fabrication techniques, the work reimagines polyurethane foam as soft, stone-like vessels that challenge perceptions of the material’s value and aesthetic potential. “Presenting the Squishy Vase Collection at SaloneSatellite during Milan Design Week 2026 was an incredibly meaningful experience. Beyond the exposure, it was important to me because of the credibility SaloneSatellite offers as an internationally recognised platform for emerging designers,” Bryce shared. “Overall, the experience was both inspiring and grounding, giving me a clearer understanding of how I hope to shape my own practice moving forward." Together with fellow alumni Wang Yixian’s Foggy Collection (Special Mention award at SaloneSatellite), Gabriel Tan’s Soft Stone Sofa for Classicon at Salone del Mobile, and our presence at Prototype Island during Milan Design Week, DID was proudly represented on the global stage for industrial and furniture design. #NUSCDE #NUSAlumni #NUSDID #NUSIndustrialDesign #SaloneSatellite #SaloneDelMobile #MilanDesignWeek #IndustrialDesign #FurnitureDesign #FutureOfDesign

Wang Yixian (Class of 2025) presented the Foggy Collection at this year’s SaloneSatellite during Milan Design Week. The collection is an exploration of transforming crocheted fibreglass fabric into glass through kiln firing. Suspended between textile and glass, where softness and structure gently meet. Her collection also received a Special Mention from the SaloneSatellite Award 2026, also known as the Róng Design Award, which supports outstanding young designers through a residency programme focused on traditional Chinese craftsmanship and materials. Reflecting on this achievement, Yixian comments, “Receiving the Special Mention award was completely unexpected, and it meant a great deal to have material-driven research and craftsmanship recognised on such an international platform.” Together with fellow alumni Bryce Lim showcasing his Squishy Vase Collection, Gabriel Tan’s Soft Stone Sofa for Classicon at Salone del Mobile, and our presence at Prototype Island during Milan Design Week, DID was proudly represented on the global stage for industrial and furniture design. How can ideas shape everyday life in Singapore? 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙚 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 was showcased at Milan Design Week from 21–26 April, presenting Singapore as a living testbed shaped through experimentation, prototyping, and iteration. Organised by @designsingapore Council and curated by DID’s own Hunn Wai and E Ian Siew, the exhibition brought Singapore’s transdisciplinary designers onto the global stage. We are proud to see DID alumni Zoey Chan, Reynard Seah, and Celeste Seah featured among the exhibitors, alongside Assistant Professor Clement Zheng's project *Scan to Play*, co-created with Yong Zhen Zhou and the Interactive Materials Lab. “It was exciting to share our work — and the rigorous research behind each project — with an international audience on such a prestigious global stage,” shared Asst Prof Clement. We are proud to see our faculty and alumni contributing to international conversations in design and shaping meaningful futures through research and creativity. @nus.cde.sg #NUSCDE #MilanDesignWeek #PrototypeIsland #SingaporeDesign #IndustrialDesign #DesignResearch #FutureOfDesign

Last week, the Division of Industrial Design hosted its first Postgraduate Showcase, featuring projects from our Master of Design in Integrated Design (MDes), MA (Industrial Design), and PhD (Industrial Design) programmes. Held at The Lodge @ Techno Edge, the showcase brought together student work, ongoing research, and interactive lab experiences, offering guests a closer look at design innovation in progress. Eight research labs and affiliated centres—including CUTE Center and AM.NUS — presented their latest explorations in design and technology. The event was attended by Deputy Dean Dr Martin Buist, alongside presentations by HOD Professor Cees de Bont and Associate Professor Dr Yen Ching-Chiuan. Senior Lecturer Karin Aue, coordinator and event organiser, also shared highlights from the MDes programme and its continued success. The evening concluded with an award ceremony recognising outstanding student work. As our first Postgraduate Showcase, the event marks an exciting step forward in advancing postgraduate design education, research by design, and meaningful collaborations. #NUSDesign #IndustrialDesign #PostgraduateDesign #DesignResearch #DesignInnovation #NUS #DesignEducation #ResearchByDesign #FutureOfDesign
