Back at the end of the summer we took on a hefty job for season 2 of “The Hunting Party” creating props for Episode 2’s antagonist, a killer who incases his victims in solid resin blocks. After a couple of meetings regarding how to go about this in different ways it was decided we just do it for real! So @reallyrippedghost and myself went on a fabrication spree of lifecasting (at one point we did 2 heads at once!) cleanup/sculpting and molding multiple actor’s heads and hands casting them in silicone painting and hair punching like madmen. Some got attached to stock bodies others were just super tight shots so they just needed a bust. Only one full body was encapsulated for an outdoor reveal shot, while the other 2 full bodies were used in a photo and one was just submerged in liquid goo. But we went through somewhere around 200 gallons of Mas Deep Pour X for everything, with the full body being almost 96 gallons and weighing something close to 800 lbs. Given the amount of pours needed for a single piece we had to schedule out the pour times where it was the bare minimum amount of cure time (sometimes a bit less) between layers, so it turned into a 24/7 job. While there were some hiccups along the way - resin leaking out of the first acrylic box mold making an amazing mess, unpredictable air bubbles forming, and some exotherm issues, everything ultimately worked out, and while the show did some VFX touch ups or chose to not use one or 2 pieces it was still a fun and interesting gig!
While visiting my Mom this holiday season I decided to reclaim my battered 80’s vhs tapes of the original Star Wars trilogy just for memory’s sake.
While they are obviously cool on their own - what makes them important to me is that they might be the first instance that I can remember of having an understanding of a “series”. I would watch the crap out of these movies when I was super young, but I don’t think I recognized that they were a trilogy or connected. However! I have a clear memory of me at like 4 or 5 looking at the covers on our VHS rack and while I couldn’t read I did recognize the similarities in covers and logos and saw a pattern. My mind was blown that they all clearly connected. I’m sure I told my parents and they were like “yeah, duh!” But to me it was like an epiphany, and it made me feel smart like a detective that just cracked a case.
Burnt body I made back in April with @reallyrippedghost . Body was cast in urethane rubber and done up nice and crispy and sceniced the wardrobe that unfortunately covered up a lot of cool details, c’est la vie!
Back in February I reworked this prop gag for “Boop! The Musical” when it came to NYC. I originally worked on this gag 2 years ago when it debuted in Chicago. When It came to NYC this year the propmaster Kathy Fabian and I had the opportunity to rework the gag so it could run smoother on set. Hey! You don’t always get it at the first try!
Happy Halloween! Here’s a great prop made for @masqueradenyc that was brought to life this past summer. The Phantom’s monkey music box. I designed and sculpted it digitally and the parts were 3d printed and then finished and painted by @justinartxtina . The motion components I made out of hand cut brass and 3d printed parts all hooked up to a dc motor. I assembled everything and got it clapping!
Just a fun throw back from 2023 during a tech rehearsal for when we made a bunch of gag props for @jalexander1959 ’s Broadway production of “The Cottage”, love Jason Alexander’s word of approval at the end! All these gags were made by me, @reallyrippedghost and @2seventy5 , great stuff!
Dug up these crazy photos for a throwback post. For when in maybe 2009 or 2010 when I was still at artschool and interned for my professor and still had sewing skills and made these wild bedazzled garbage bag KKK robes with @lady_schu and Julia for @vaginaldavis_official for their “Pedro, Muriel, and Esther” show at Santos Party House!
A modification and repaint on a toy remote controlled shark in a sort of a fast “let’s make this work” effort with @freekatet for a video for @eartheater that was for TONO festival earlier this year when she preformed.
A cute baby dragon that was done for @griffin.stoddard for the show he designed for Chappell Roan at the Orange Warsaw Festival in Poland. He supplied the models which were created by @andrea_chiampo then we 3d printed and finished the parts. @reallyrippedghost and myself molded and cast the different parts in silicone which were then assembled seamed and painted by me. I don’t often get to do whimsical things, so this was a nice change of pace!
