Sculptor Charles Dickson likes to have fun and explore possibilities! He is really a "child at heart" enjoying playing around and making music in a sound room at Meow Wolf Las Vegas!
Innocence and curiosity keeps this artist's creative juices flowing with a unique permanent installation of his extensive collection of water toys!
His room is called "Play Time" for the new Meow Wolf opening in Los Angeles this year.
Dickson's collection of water toys was inspired by legendary toy designer Dr. Lonnie Johnson who created "Super Soakers".
Collecting more than a thousand water toys of all kinds became one of Dickson's greatest passions.
"It's good to have a hobby!" he says.
Grateful for the imagination of Dr. Lonnie Johnson and the staff and heart of the Meow Wolf team for the opportunity to be a part of such an exciting project!

Sculptor Charles Dickson's "Ye Yo", (1997) hand-carved avocado wood and chain-linked fence inspired by Eyruka Badu's song "Ye Yo", the word is an honorable greeting for Massai Mothers/women.
Mother and child are iconic in his sculptures, paying homage to African American women who had to endure the historical separation of Mother & Child throughout enslavement for hundreds of years.

An emerging artist, Levon Riggins, wanted to introduce himself and "Thank" sculptor Charles Dickson for being the inspiration for his artistic practice today.
Riggins saw Dickson's work at a group show (curated by Jill Moniz) a few years ago in Chinatown and was so impressed with it that he started creating art!
Dickson will be hosting monthly tours of his studio this year for artists interested in"making" things with their hands.
A monthly mentoring gathering is also in the works.
