This superb article by Dani Garavelli just came out today, but what it details is the culmination of years of work by all of us at Fair Scotland and, in Dumfries especially, half a decade of engagement and advocacy by T.s. Bealleall with the support of organisations such as The Stove Network. Here's hoping this piece starts meaningful conversations about the future of fairs in Scotland - and that these are fruitful. /.../25096955.last.../ If you are one of Showland's Own, or just care about the future of our fairs, please fill out our online survey on Scotland's lost and endangered fairs: /.../1FAIpQLSeXOpaXTwLXL1.../viewform

CONCRETE DREAMS COMES TO THE CAPITAL! I haven’t been posting much lately (in part because my head has been firmly down and focused on work, and possibly became social media is destroying what’s left of our civilisation…) but you could say this is a period of ‘project interregnum’. Old ones being wrapped up and completed…and new ones just starting! More soon!

Wonderful to see @dedelebas show at @glasgowtramway this weekend. A complex, layered exploration of unspoken things, the looming Minoan goddess was both homespun and a little terrifying (which is surely the correct response from this beneficiary of the patriarchy…?) while the warning to ‘beware of linguistic engineering’ is so on point it’s painful. Traveller iconography, from wireframe vardos, discombobulated horses and bleached-out big tops pulls it all together and adds to its moral force. Open until October this year. Go and see it.

A hard-working but utterly fascinating 4 days of graphic anthropology working with Queens University School of Built Environment, the Change Stories Project and the incredible people at the Participation and Practice of Rights charity (PPR) in Belfast with friends old and new. Inspired. Humbled. Knackered! #belfast #ppr

I was blown away by @crawickmultiverse down by Sanquhar (and this time I’m not talking about the weather). Landscape art that never asks you to keep your distance, it draws dog-walkers, artists and four year olds into a conversation between art, science and landscape that never feels prohibitive or exclusive.

Scary Fairies! A post that, improbably, brings drawing, Usborne Books, and The Pandemic into the sinister form of the legendary Redcap. Fashion to dye for. ...a pun you probably won't get unless you're a folklorist. Or you read the Usborne Guide to the World of the Supernatural as a kid. OR, you read the essay at the link below... /pub/preferredfictions/p/on-redcaps-and-pandemics?r=22n5gh&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Opening commissions for an idea I last played with some time ago: postcard-sized illustrations that explore novels, short stories, poems. Image-play on word-play. Basically, you share with me a favourite line from a story you love, and I will make and send you a bespoke illustration based on it. It could be representational, symbolic or a riff on the words. Either way, it will certainly be unique! Interested? Check out the link below or DM. I love a challenge! /users/dialectographer/manage_gigs
