This Saturday, we gather by the water for a special screening.
Bound for Lagos (1960) — a rare archival film that captures a journey into Lagos at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history, around the time of independence. It offers a glimpse into how the city was seen, imagined, and documented in that era.
As part of Library on the Lagoon, we continue to explore film as memory, place, and conversation, bringing people together through shared viewing experiences by the waterfront.

Palm fronds carried on Palm Sunday symbolize peace, victory and renewal in the Christian faith.
They recall the biblical moment when Jesus Christ was welcomed into Jerusalem with palms, representing honor and reverence. Today, the palms serve as a sign of humility, hope and spiritual triumph.

Worshippers dressed in white garments take part in a Palm Sunday procession, walking through the streets with palm fronds in hand in Lagos, Nigeria.
Palm Sunday, observed by Christians worldwide, marks the beginning of Holy Week and commemorates the biblical account of Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, where crowds welcomed him with palm branches.
Children and adults joined the procession, carrying symbolic palms and crosses, blending tradition with a strong sense of community and celebration.
