RF: Jamie’s family were recently in touch, and generously so, to notify me of Jamie’s process. My reply...
When Jamie left King Crimson in early 1973, he sent me a postcard and on the front: All part of the rich tapestry of life.
And on the back: Coo-ee. Jamie.
If you feel it appropriate, and not intrusive in any way, please say to Jamie...
All part of the rich tapestry of life.
Coo-ee. Robert.
Yesterday evening this e-mail...
“Jamie died this afternoon. His brother, George, was with him and this morning read Jamie your lovely words. He said that Jamie cracked a smile”.
RF: Jamie Muir was a major, and continuing, influence on my thinking, not only musical. A wonderful and mysterious person. Of the five members of KC 1972, Jamie had the greatest authority, experience and presence.
Fly well, Master Muir.
A Guitar Craft course with Robert Fripp has just been announced: Sunday 27, April – Sunday 4, May 2025
Villa Sancelso, Castione della Presolana, Italy.
Music has its own intelligence, but can music change the world? If so, how?
How does music come into our lives?
How does a musician become present in the place within themselves, where music lives and visits?
If music is to enter our world, the role of the audience is as necessary as the role of the musician. How is an audient present within themself when music flies by?
What is involved in the process of musical performance?
Guitar Craft and The Guitar Circle take a practical approach to these questions. In addition to guitarists, we also invite those who have an interest in Music and whose musical instrument is their ears, to engage with the techniques and approaches available to Crafty Guitarists.

"Music Is Our Friend premieres on King Crimson's YouTube.
This official bootleg album derives its name from the tour during which the performances were recorded. It captures the entirety of King Crimson's last show in North America, which took place in Washington in September 2021. These recordings mark both the beginning and the end of a tour that persevered through numerous challenges.
Originally slated for 2020, the tour had to be postponed for an entire year due to the pandemic. It commenced in July in Florida, coinciding with the onset of a fresh wave of Covid cases. The band traversed the country in a tour bus "bubble." After a two-week hiatus caused by scheduling conflicts, they resumed their journey, with the Zappa Band preceding King Crimson each night.
Throughout the tour, the band encountered a series of daunting circumstances. They faced the need to relocate performances due to severe weather conditions, including one instance where a venue was flooded the day before a scheduled concert. Additionally, an open-air venue in New York was shifted to the more familiar Beacon Theatre. In a particularly worrisome incident, a band member had to be airlifted to the hospital via helicopter. Nevertheless, the band member made a full recovery, and despite these setbacks and obstacles, King Crimson managed to fulfil all their concert commitments without any cancellations.
By the time they reached Washington, King Crimson had reached a formidable peak, delivering a dynamic and energetic set. Certain arrangements had been reworked and differed from previous tours, showcasing the band's evolving prowess.

The reformed King Crimson of 1981 emerged as a completely distinct entity from its late ‘60s/early ‘70s incarnation. Notably, Adrian Belew (vocals/guitar) and Tony Levin (bass) joined the ranks alongside previous members Bill Bruford (drums) and the leader/founder Robert Fripp (guitar). While the band retained its musical unpredictability, their fresh sound and approach deviated significantly from their original progressive direction. With two albums released under this new lineup (1981’s Discipline and Beat), King Crimson embarked on a tour that led to the creation of their first home video, ‘The Noise: Live at Fréjus.’ Initially recorded in August of ‘82 at the Arena in France, this video remained largely unseen until its reissue by DGM in 1997. However, it serves as an exceptional visual testament to the ‘80s-era King Crimson.
Now available both as a full concert and as individual clips exclusively on the official King Crimson YouTube channel.
