Water lovers rejoice! It's World Water Week (24-28 August). We've been working behind-the-scenes with some pretty neat folk to create a new short film, about the water cycle. As we like to say, “water is life, and when it’s safe and healthy, so are we”. It’s vital we have a stable water cycle, but to be able to play our part, we - as a community - need to understand more about it. Catch the premiere of our new short film on the big screen and hear from some of the team behind it. Join us at the @wao_aotearoa Film Night, with @pureadvantage for the South Island premiere of 'Think Like A Forest', this Thursday 28 August at @paradiso_wanaka . The 7pm session with kōrero has sold out, so they've added another earlier session at 5.30pm (without the panel discussion). Head to link in bio for tickets.

Here’s a few back country huts from the last section of @teararoanztrail we did back in January - see more at @noodlesforbrekky 130kms through the middle of Te Waipounamu/South Island, finishing at Lake Takapō/Tekapo. These huts are such a treat. Sure, they’re usually not insulated, plenty of them don’t have a fireplace or wood, there’s often mice around and there’s definitely no cleaner doing the rounds. But after a long day tramping and especially if it’s pouring with rain, having a table to sit around and play cards at is marvellous indeed. #teararoatrail #backcountryhuts #twothumbstrack #canterbury #aotearoa #nzmustdo #hut #cabin #cabinporn #teararoa

🥾 Mother of three, Deanna Gerlach @noodlesforbrekky says the idea to walk Te Araroa was conceived during covid lockdowns, from their suburban home in Sydney. The family sold everything in Australia, spent two weeks in hotel quarantine in New Zealand and then started walking the length of the country from Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga) to Motupo-hue (Bluff). ⛺ Day 1 on the trail was the family's first overnight tramp, but within three weeks they were trail-fit. Deanna reflects on the experience saying, "we loved it," but there were tough days for everyone. 🏔️ Flooded streams in Canterbury meant that they had to skip large sections between Arthur's Pass and Takapō. 🌊 The Gerlach family revisited these missed sections with now-teenagers and Deanna says it was quite a different experience, though once again it had it's highlights and it's struggles. 🚶‍♀️ She shares advice for others that want to start tramping and says, "don't run in and do what we did!" Deanna says to consider your motivations, what you want to get out of it and the importance of giving kids a sense of purpose and playing to their strengths. 💪 Listen to the Episode 083 on the Aotearoa Adventures podcast for the full story 🎧

I was lucky enough to be part of two different trips this February that invited wāhine / women to come together and get out of our comfort zones doing cool things in the back country. One project relocating and restoring an old hut down by a remote river in the Kaweka Range with @backcountry_trust_nz And one way off track in the depths of Fiordland with @fiordland_wapiti_foundation There’s something magic about this kind of space that invites vulnerability, connection and growth - all while getting shit done like you wouldn’t believe! Us wāhine / women are so damn capable, believe it. #internationalwomensday
