كان مقرّ الحكم وموطن إقامة الأسرة السعودية الحاكمة، ومنه انطلقت ملامح الدبلوماسية السعودية الأولى، فبقى شاهدًا على مرحلةٍ ازدهرت فيها الدولة وترسّخت أسسها.
في عام 850 هـ/1446م أسس الأمير مانع المريدي #الدرعية، واتخذ من حي غصيبة مقرًا للحكم.
وعلى مدى قرون، كان للحي والدرعية بالعموم دورًا محوريًا في حماية طرق الحج والتجارة المارة بها.

واليوم، يبقى حي الطريف التاريخي شاهدًا على براعة العمارة النجدية، ومكانًا تحفظ جدرانه قرونًا من الإرث الحيّ.
