Every day, more than 16,000 colleagues bring our network to life across Europe - each with their own story.
One of them is Keith Thomas from Scotland, a Third Engineer on Dunkerque Seaways ⛴️ 🛠️
Alongside his love for machinery and engineering, Keith is currently preparing for a marathon to raise money for a cause close to his heart 💙
Last year, Keith’s fiancé, Caitlin, was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) - a moment that changed their lives.
Even in the face of such a difficult moment, Keith has found a way to channel it into positive action.
On 24th May, he’ll run the Edinburgh Marathon with close friends to raise money for the @mssocietyuk 🏃🏻♂️
Training for a marathon is challenging for anyone... and even tougher when your “office” is in the middle of the ocean 🌊
Fortunately, Dunkerque Seaways has an onboard gym, and Keith has become a regular on the treadmill during his rest hours - and the engine room team have been cheering him on every step of the way 👟
So far, he and his friends have raised over £4,000 to support the MS Society 🙌
We’re wishing Keith the very best of luck in the Edinburgh Marathon and sending warm thoughts to Caitlin ✨

We are expanding capacity on the Rosslare-Dunkirk route with third vessel ⛴️
From September, we will offer seven weekly round-trips on the Rosslare-Dunkirk route by adding a third vessel to the route to provide increased capacity for freight operators and more travel options for passengers during the holiday season 🚛 👩🏽🤝👨🏻
“The expansion of this service reflects continued growth in both trade and tourism between Ireland and Europe. With more sailings and increased capacity, we are well positioned to support customers during the busy autumn and winter season,” says Owen Hides, Route Director, DFDS.

Halima is one of the bright students in our Waves of Talent programme – an initiative created to welcome more women into life at sea ⛴️ 🙋🏻♀️
Currently studying naval sciences in Morocco, Halima spends part of her training onboard our ferries, learning directly from our captains and crew 👏🏼
“From day one, I had the opportunity to witness real maritime operations and understand the responsibility at sea,” says Halima.
When our ferry Côte des Dunes entered dry dock recently, Halima was there to observe the entire operation 🛠️
“Seeing the vessel out of the water allowed me to closely examine the hull, propeller, rudder system and underwater body for the first time. It was very exciting and strengthened my understanding of ship maintenance,” she says.
She has previously completed internships on Luna Seaways and Côte des Flandres, gaining hands-on experience across our fleet ⛴️
Our Waves of Talent programme is currently active in Türkiye and Morocco, opening doors for women like Halima and helping build a more diverse and inclusive maritime industry ⚓︎

Introducing the first e-truck to the Shetland Islands 🚛🎉
We have launched the first battery-powered heavy-duty truck to operate on the Shetland Islands - a Volvo FM Electric ⚡️
It’s a milestone for the local community, for our Scottish operations and for anyone wondering whether electric freight can really go the distance 🌍
“Because of the islands’ remoteness - far from conventional maintenance support and without existing charging infrastructure - we had to build an entirely new ecosystem around the truck. That challenge became our motivation,” says Bryan Hepburn, Operations Manager, DFDS Scotland.
The goal wasn’t just to introduce a new vehicle. It was to prove that electric freight can work even in the most demanding environments - and to lay the groundwork for what comes next 🔋
Across Europe, DFDS now operates 149 electric trucks, including 10 across the UK and Ireland 🚛 🚚
