one year without her today. theres nothing i could ever say that would express how much i miss her and how much everything in my life changed on this day. my entire view on the world changed in the 10 months we watched her decline. i just did not get enough time with her.
my cousin James was the first person i ever considered my "favorite" - there were quite a few stern conversations telling me i "needed" to leave him alone and that he was a teenager and i was a kid - he had a life and didn't want to entertain me all day! but he never, ever made me feel like that. no matter how frustrated he was that i was following him around, treating him like my own personal teddy bear, he was always kind and funny towards me at his core. i was hit in the head with a golf club when i was 14 on our annual summer vacation - when i fell and hit the ground, James was the one i was screaming out to help me. he wasn't even within eyesight of the activity - i have no clue what he was doing at that time, but i knew wherever he was and whatever he was doing - he would drop it to come help me (and of course he came running, scooped me up out of the sand, and helped me get to the hospital). he was always the families protector and watching someone who you view as the biggest and strongest man in your life get sick...... ⁉️ not a very good time. he was truly all of the best parts of his mom & dad. i thought his obituary was beautiful & i love this photo of us as kids - when i tell you i used to cling to this man, i mean it. vacation for him was just seeing how many times he could throw me into three mile lake before i finally gave it a fucking rest (i never did). we will miss his spot in our family forever and ever.

first year of my 30s.... woof ! 🌝 THE YEAR I TRIED TO SETTLE DOWN.... the year i realized we really are all aging! the year i got medicated (life changing), the year i became a mother to two (cats), the year i traveled less than ever and tried to like the place i live (i do), the year i got horribly injured, the year i worked way! too! much!!!!!, the year i learned about lash lifts and highlights and getting your belly tattooed when you've hated it your whole life! the year i spent realizing my best friends are the real loves of my life. the year i (still!) saw the wonder years. i thought about my mom constantly this last year & on my birthday ~ the best birthday we ever spent was right before she died, trying on wedding dresses she'd never live to see me wear at a ceremony. she met my dad when she was 30 & they got married when she was 31 ~ our 30s look so different, every day i wish i could tell her what's going on. she would love to hear about it all. 🫶🏼 birthdays are weird! 31 started weird... it can only get better 🙂↔️ go birds. xx
