Would like to say that this event, DEVOTION - is a side project by TEMPTRIX. Yes, I'm going to be DJing unreleased songs of mine in every show. Hell I might just perform live in one, if it keeps going. I've received more than one message from folks saying they didn't know this was my event. Well now you know :) I'm running a music project that I love, recording, rehearsing, mothering and trying my best to bring good folks together. Thankfully, the next show is a collab which is a huge blessing because booking shows is hella work!! It's enlightening to have teamed up with such a hard working booker as SÈANCE As an artist I am not one for collabs, but I'm 🤔 thinking as a booker, it could be a good time to be collaborative on events. It builds trust and community. Or at least I hope so. That is my hope from doing this.

What is building community? I've been asking myself this. I suppose that's a big question for a complex and often polarized music scene. I think creating safe spaces, as @egauxsells mentioned on stage in DEVOTION - that "this is a safe space" helps to make sure everyone knows open dialogue is important. Safe spaces, especially queer safe spaces, enhance communication and encourage collaboration. Safe spaces for me, are the absence of hostility where I'm able to share my views openly. Safe spaces to me, are also a place to learn from others, receive feedback and to be able to express vulnerability without expectations of being perfect or anything that doesn't make room for experiments or mistakes. I'd like DEVOTION to be an event to bring more of the goth scene together, but it's not a job for one person, especially not just me, who is often an experiment of experiences as an artist. But, we can work together to figure it out. Solutions do exist, when resources from the community are offered. Long story cut short: DEVOTION is teaming up with others in the community to help build. Well that was a sweet gig last night💘 Thanks to the whole lineup for performing at my first event in town and to Cheer Ups for allowing me to host a goth night at the club.
