My husband recently asked me what it was that I care about…what were my priorities, why do I do it all? There was not a single hesitation: •More Midwives for our future •More Midwifery options today •More access to midwifery care and also to spend just a little more of the last bit of time with my teenagers before they are gone, dig my hands in my garden, and live a long, balanced, healthy life. Healthy midwives for healthy birth. In 2026 Devotion Midwifery is doing it all! Link in bio or visit our website to consider midwifery care. #midwifelife #makemoremidwives #makemidwiferymainstream #louisianamidwives #homebirth #louisianahomebirth #birthwithdevotion

This photo is called “unexpected Devotion”. It’s been really quite the treat to have 2 midwives at some of the home births recently. It’s doesn’t happen often but when it does, it was always meant to be. Devotion Midwifery welcomed 16 new babes in the last couple months and watched families stretch and women transcend while we also moved both of our offices! #growing If you’re interested in what this homebirth thing is all about, you can set up a meet & greet at our New Orleans office inside @spyre_nola or our Northshore office inside @thenest_by_stork 🧡 visit Lil sticky shoulder baby had us all locked in but this mama moved with a power of knowing something was “stuck” , and with a little extra support peacefully brought her baby into dappled morning sun #homebirth #louisianahomebirth #midwife #birthwithdevotion @perfect_peace_birth_services @laura.perkins.birth @themidwifewithin

This International Day of The Midwife theme is “One Million More” and we would like to introduce you to our FUTURE MIDWIVES! Why One Million More Midwives? Midwives provide essential sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health services worldwide. They support women and gender diverse people before, during and after birth. They provide contraception, comprehensive abortion care, breastfeeding support, and ongoing care across the life course. Yet globally, there are not enough midwives, and many of the ones we do have are not enabled to work to their full scope of practice. A recently published research study lays out new global evidence that clearly shows the scale of the challenge. The findings confirm that without urgent investment in midwifery education, employment, regulation, and leadership, countries will continue to face severe workforce shortages. These gaps translate directly into poorer outcomes for women, newborns, and families, and place unnecessary strain on already stretched health systems. At the same time, the data is clear about the solution. When midwives are educated to international standards, properly regulated, fairly paid, and integrated into health systems, outcomes improve. Maternal and newborn deaths decrease. Unnecessary interventions are reduced. Care becomes more accessible, more respectful, and more cost effective. Investing in midwives is not only the right thing to do, it is one of the smartest investments a health system can make. One million midwives is the estimated workforce needed globally to meet essential health needs. Behind that number are real people, real communities, and real opportunities to transform care. A note from Anne 🌸 I’m so happy you’re here and a part of the Devotion Midwifery Mama Medicine village of mothers mothering together. If we haven’t met yet, I truly can’t wait to connect with you. And to the moms who have already been coming to Mama Medicine meet-ups—I’m really looking forward to being together again soon. There’s something about spring—this season in particular—that feels so alive and energizing. I’ve been noticing the shift in myself as I come out of the darker, slower winter months and my earlier postpartum time with my second baby, and gently step into more consistent rhythms. Life with an infant and a three-year-old is beautifully unpredictable, but I’m finding more and more small, meaningful ways to care for myself within that. And I can feel how much it matters—it gives me more energy, more presence, and allows me to show up more fully for my family. One simple practice that’s been especially supportive lately is using a sauna tent at home. My husband and I gifted this to each other for Christmas, and it’s been our most used gift to date! I’ll often sit in it while Adeline naps and Belle (5 months now!) plays right outside in her chair. It’s not perfect or uninterrupted, but it feels deeply grounding and nourishing for this season of life. I’ve also found myself listening to my birth playlist in there—reflecting on the beauty and the intensity of motherhood, and feeling so much gratitude for it all. Leila and I are dreaming up so many beautiful ways to gather this year—bringing in supportive providers to help us thrive on our journeys through womanhood and motherhood, and continuing to create spaces that feel meaningful, connected, and deeply supportive. One of the things we’re especially excited about is planning a seasonal Mother Blessing—a time to honor you, your journey into motherhood, and the sacred transition you’re walking through. More details coming soon! Our next Mama Medicine meet-up is Sunday, April 19th, and I hope to see so many of you there! Please know that you are always welcome to breastfeed, pump, change diapers, or care for yourself and your baby in whatever way you need while we gather! I hope to see you soon!

Duality. As a baby midwife I was told that when you walk into a birth, you have life on one shoulder and death on the other... And that we must always fear birth as we fear God. Because it’s power is beyond human control. But that does not mean we act with fear and carry fear. I am reminded of the duality. And I promise to always respect and fear birth for you… because that’s how midwives keep birth safe. 📸 @neworleansbirthphotographer #homebirth #midwifery #birthwithdevotion #neworleanshomebirth

The number one comment I hear from first time birthers on why they are choosing the hospital the first time around is “just in case there’s a complication” but the number one reason second time moms choose home birth is to have a “redemptive home birth due to their traumatic first hospital birth”… The duality is heart wrenching. Consider calling a midwife and talk about home birth today 🧡 #homebirth #midwife #midwiferysaveslives

For real though. The midwifery model of care is all about informed consent, shared decision making, autonomy, medical freedom, physiology, and being the wise woman that walks along side you in this crazy journey that has been traveled by our ancestors and midwives before us. However don’t take this to mean that the midwife gives up her own autonomy to do so. Instead, there is a harmonic relationship of deep trust. Find the right midwife for your birth and your values. 📸 @neworleansbirthphotographer #midwife #homebirth #louisianamidwife #birthwithdevotion
