“I started wood turning after I inherited a Lathe from my Great Uncle. I still now, many years later, use some of the same tools and often think back to him using them.
I love making pens, they are each so individual and you never know quite what you will find inside each piece of wood. A wooden pen is unlike any other pen the feel in your hand is warm and the wood will gain a unique patina as you use it. The wooden pens I make all make use of standard refills so no more broken or empty plastic pens going to landfill.
I was honoured to be asked to supply pens for the G7 summit in Cornwall. Each of the leaders were given a fountain pen in a presentation box. The pens were made with a piece of oak that was previously a finger board way marker sign on the Southwest Coast path.

A new range of pens made with wood from a Hockey stick will be on display for the first time at Exeter Craft Festival. I am yet to figure out the two inner types of wood, but the outer parts are Mulberry.
I just added a few pens made with Ancient English Bog Yew. I was lucky enough to get some of this ancient wood as it is not seen very often. It is easier to work with than Bog Oak as it is a little softer. Also I did not walk away looking like I had done a shift down a coal mine covered in black dust. It is about the same age as the Bog oak at around 3300BC so about the same age as Stonehenge!
I can see some amazing pens coming from these old shotgun stocks. Most are made from top grade Walnut.

Finally got chance to replace some of the shaving collection that had sold out. A couple of new items added including a shaving set with a Fusion razor handle, Brush and stand all made in Cork Oak from killerton house, Exeter. All of the woods I use for shaving items are stabilized with resin. This ensures they won't degrade when subjected to water. This is a long process that involves drying the wood to zero moisture content,several days in a vacuum chamber to remove any air, the wood is then left to soak the resin up to replace the air this is then heat cured. So all in all around a week to get the wood ready to use. This is after the twelve to eighteen months plus to season it from when I receive it as logs.
