Tick, Tick… BOOM! 2025… A show that I wasn’t expecting to happen this year or anytime in the future, but I’m so glad it did. From start to finish of the insanely short pre show period everyone was committed and the talent shown both on stage and in rehearsals was insane. It’s been over 3.5 months since the show and it still feels like yesterday. A while back I said I’d get a tattoo for every show I directed, because I only intend to direct shows I’m passionate about, and Tick Tick Boom is definitely one of them shows… So it’s the first show tattoo of what I presume will be quite a number. Definitely keen for the next.

TTB Part 6… the last one, I swear Matt - Mr lightbulb. My god you put up with some of my shit a few too many times 😂, though that goes both ways 😂. It’s wild to see what can happen when a director who does lighting does a show with someone who has a degree in lighting. While yes, many aspects were a major pain in the ass, and I didn’t make it easy (sorry, not sorry), it turned out incredibly well. As usual, the bio box vibes were great, and I’m sure our rendition of therapy could win a Finley in itself… maybe next time we should avoid having hazers break though…. And to anyone else I haven’t directly mentioned. Thank you. This is a show that I couldn’t have done without the help of everyone that was involved. We always talked about how we were aiming for professional theatre standard of show in community theatre budget and setting. And I believe we achieved that, with seemingly everyone’s reviews and comments of the show saying the same. While we had the easy excuse of having a short time frame, we didn’t need it, and not only met, but far exceeded the expectations of people coming to see the show. There were definitely ups and downs (#TTF) but it was, as a whole, an experience I’ll never forget and will forever cherish. And you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves and what we created together. And to my Tick tick boom family, I love y’all! And I hope to work with all of you again (dw, I’ll drag you into something)! And now I’m gonna get back to doing nothing and recovering from the last 6 weeks… well, doing nothing while also planning the next show 👀 Goddahm that was like 40 minutes of typing. Finally done. Thank you to everyone.

TTB part 5 Now onto some of the show photos! I swear I’m almost done @magicjakeball - Best dad ever! While we worked on young Frank together last year, we didn’t really see a whole lot of each other, so I’m glad we were able to work a little closer together for this show. To no surprise, your natural talent, characterisation, and vibe blew me away. It brang genuinely laughter every night during any part you were in, you sure do know how to have stage presence! I’ll be sure to get you a working fax machine next time! @aleishaarchy - the one and only Rosa Stevens. You were the one person I had almost no connection to going into this show, and I had absolutely no idea what to expect. But I’m so glad you were apart of this show and that I got to meet you and work with you. I couldn’t have imagined a better Rosa, and despite the very little I gave you to go on for Judy, you blew me away! I genuinely look forward to working with you again. Next time, remind me to record the drunk afters auditions 😂 @jasper_cruden -mr piano man. I’ll keep it short and sweet (hopefully). Twas a pleasure working with you again, and I look forward to October… your blatant honesty, vibe, and ability to ignore the score entirely, is incredibly hilarious and valuable! Glad I got you on this show as soon as it became an idea. Hopefully we’ll be able to find somewhere as mythical as the burgery bar somewhere else… Ian - from drummer to Assistant Director. When this show first started, I recall our conversation where you mentioned you had no idea what you were doing and had never been a director or assistant director before… to which I said, same. It was incredible to see you come out of your shell as the confidence grew more and more with each rehearsal and chaotic day. I’m incredibly glad to have had you by my side, as your thought processes, perspectives, and opinions were incredibly important, valuable, and appreciated! Im glad we got to work closer together this time around, and I look forward to the next…

TTB part 4 Finally at the end of all of the set building photos. @blairrr.png - my personal barber, where do I begin… you were one of the first people (if not the first) that I messaged about this show once limelight said yes, and I’m so glad I did. After properly talking to you to the first time only a week before, to now, how time has flown. I remember our first sorta real/long chat on the stage one night, where I was like, how tf did I not meet you sooner cause Goddahm your a vibe. I stand by it, and to think we hadn’t done a show together (technically) til now, is wild. I genuinely look forward to working with you again in the future… and btw, might have to steal you from Escher (sorry, not sorry Escher). @calebsteviewonder - my magical dancing man. I think I’ve got more batshit wild stories with you than most, because you went from being choreographer to cast member, to helping me with the set for who knows how many days, I genuinely couldn’t have finished it without you. For first time choreographer, you blew me tf away! And our set building shenanigans were some of my favourite from the show… I will now forever remember that the jigsaw is the way to go… even if it is the sketchier option. Considering neither of us has ever built a set before, I’d say we did a fucking great job. I’ve got a feeling we did breathe in a little too much foam though so there may be some long term damage… imma call that a later problem! I’m so glad we finally got a chance to work together, and I hope to again at somepoint in the future! @georgia.goff_ - your birthday gift is going to be twinkies… I heard you love them! All jokes aside, I’m so glad you were apart of this show. From your audition to now, there’s been plenty of trips, falls, and stumbles down stairs, but your energy, late night vibes, and passion for theatre were immaculate. You and Jake will forever be the best parents ever 😂… maybe just don’t fall down the stairs next time…

TTB Part 3 From the crazy hours to the loud and chaotic boho days backstage right after we closed, it’s an experience I’ll never forget. Now, if you’ve gotten this far, Goddahm, well done. But I’m not done yet. To my incredible Tick Tick Boom family, y’all are insane… both insanely talented and insane for agreeing to put up with my insanity for 6 weeks. @jwri.ch - I remember when I first told you about this show, fully expecting you to not be interested. Then you fully caught me off guard and jumped straight in and I had an audition sent through and you eagerly pestering me for an answer 😂. Then it all began and my god I cannot express how insane, and impressive it is that you got the whole script down. One of my favourite early on rehearsals was with just You, Ian, and myself. That whole workshop style one on one (2 in this case) was a really enjoyable experience. I genuinely couldn’t have pictured anyone else to play that role better. You absolutely fucking killed it and you should be so fucking proud, because I know I am. (P.s. you should wear the green dress more 😂). @elliecoburrrn - from one chaotic show to another. When I say your audition blew me away, I mean it. We’d just come off of a show together less than a week prior, but your talent still managed to shock me. I still remember pacing around the limelight foyer one night when I called you to offer you the role, and it seemed my shock also matched yours when I said it 😂. It has been incredibly working with you, the banter, chaos, vibes, and insane talent is amazing! And now 6 weeks later, it’s all at an end, so expect me to drag you into the next one 👀.

TTB 2025 Part 2 One of the initial things was that I said it’d have to be closed casting due to the timeframe, limelight agreed (usually has to be open casing)… I ended up changing that because I didn’t realise how many people would be interested. So a couple days later and after watching all of the auction self tapes over and over with the creative team, we came to a final decision. Then it was Thursday, and I had the first meeting at limelight to discuss the show and its specifics and it was fully approved by the theatre, I got the keys, card, etc. Then the following days we went through a bunch of choreo, lighting, planning, etc. The daunting thing at this point was rights. I was asked a number of times at the marloo awards whether I had rights from MTI…. Which I didn’t. But then Tuesday we were set to have our script read, and I woke up to an email at 6am from MTI saying rights were denied, so needless to say I went back to sleep and ignored it for 6 more hours! But, nonetheless the less we planned to continue the script read incase it changed, and then RJ worked some magic and by 1:30 rights were approved! Then everyday was crazy. From that initial meeting at limelight to opening night, I had 2-3 days away from the theatre, with the rest of the days all being 10hrs+, sleeping there for more nights than I’d like to admit, and grinding away at every aspect of the show. Going from not having a show, to directing, set building, audio, publicity, and so many other things is definitely a challenge. But I’m glad I did it. It was chaotic, it was stressful, it was all over the place, and yet I looked forward to rehearsals and the vibes were immaculate. The imposter syndrome was and is definitely still incredibly prevalent, but oh well 😂. Then, all of a sudden it was here. From that first joke about doing a show, to opening night. And then before I knew it, it was done. And after putting so much into a show and knowing it inside and out in every aspect, and getting to work with such talented people, I will look back on it as my favourite show. @blairrr.png @jwri.ch @elliecoburrrn @aleishaarchy @calebsteviewonder @georgia.goff_ @magicjakeball

Tick, Tick… Boom! 2025 Part 1 I don’t even know to begin with this absolutely chaotic show. So… I guess I’ll go from the beginning. ( this is gonna be a long one) Going to the finleys this year with my first nomination (lighting) was already great, but that night started everything for this show. I remember seeing that limelight had posted something on Facebook, saying the first show had been cancelled, so as a JOKE I said to someone “what if I submitted a show for that slot”. When I said it, I had no intention of doing it. I knew I wanted to direct somewhere, at some point, but I didn’t know what show, where, or when. Then the following day I’m out for lunch with someone and message the one and Only RJ (an absolute savour of this show in so many ways) and jokingly ask if they’d be open to me submitting a show. Surprisingly the response was that they’d be interested to see what I had in mind… I had nothing at the time. This was 4pm Sunday Jan 12th (it’s engrained into my brain for some reason). I went home and started scouring MTI and Origin for shows, making a spread sheet of options with every detail and a ranking on how possible it’d be. After talking to a couple people and getting to two show options (neither of which were doable in 5 weeks), I almost gave up, because it wasn’t looking like it’d be doable… then two things happened… 1: I realised I was searching by 2 act musicals and tick tick boom was 1 act… and 2: Matt remembered it existed and suggested it and I realised I was an idiot by forgetting it, because it’s a show I love. So then came a couple hours of contacting people (it was around midnight when tick tick boom was thrown into the mix) and looking at scripts and figuring out if it was actually doable. By 4am I had sent the rough info through to RJ, and by the time I woke up on Monday it was more or less approved by limelight… and I never thought it’d get that far. This is part 1 of like 6 because Instagram has a stupid character limit and I have lots to say!
