I believe it is vital that we come into grief and death with honesty and humility, knowing that time will come when our most beloved beings transform through the portal of Death. Pre-grieving is a practice that is personal to all beings. It is also a practice of love, and a practice of how to be heart broken. We are all walking each other home. People are always asking me “so… what is it that you do actually?” Here is a snippet of the work we can do together. It’s not about becoming a “better” singer, It is reframing what it means to sing. I love men. I really do. And in these times of poly-crisis, largely perpetrated by men with power, I feel my love for men being asked to deepen. Asked to change. When I first began learning of the Motherless website and the underground network of men supporting each other in horrendous violence towards their partners, I was physically sickened. So I want to gather together, brothers. Let’s love each other, and see what is stirred when we let our shadows be held accountable in this space of love and grief and intelligent vulnerability. This past month, I embarked on a journey unlike any other. I went to Manitoba to undergo the 16-Day Ultimate Survival Challenge at @survivalbytraining There I learned the foundations of wilderness survival, land navigation, wilderness first aid, firearms safety, cold water immersion… needless to say it was fairly wild. I really was in some moments in contact with my edges, the trickster of my mind, my patterns of reactivity, the bluntness of nature and her ways of telling you your mistakes, and her generosity… and this training really did equip me to actually meet these forces. The training allowed me to show myself different possibilities of proceeding. There are stories about fire, about losing things in snow, about crying missing home, endless snowshoeing, about a moon so pregnant and immediate in a sky so fathomless- and those stories will come. I return home somewhat more initiated than I was upon departure, and I look to share these skills with others. How that is to take shape, let’s find out.
