Looking back, this feels like a pinnacle moment in my career, it pushed me to respect my work in a way I hadn’t before.
There’s something surreal about creating something that goes on to exist so separately from you. I’ll never forget this one.

My grandmother knew I was an artist before I did.
She used to pick me up from school in her gray minivan and make me write down every creative idea I had. The Seatbelt Purse was first drawn when I was ten, inspired by those rides, and later made during Covid from gray seatbelts, while my brother and I quarantined in her newly empty home.
What began in loss became a way to honor her—she lives on through me, and through everything I create. 🪽
