This is a post about a place and a camera and a person and weather and trying new things. What more could you need, really? I don’t post landscapes mostly because I don’t shoot landscapes, but here’s something new for you. My dear friend
@cearadonnelley and I have been talking about doing a writing retreat for a while. I wanted to get back to my screenplay and she has a nascent personal project she’s working on. We both wanted some quiet and solitude. So she invited me to spend a few days on an absurdly stunning piece of land her family has had for a few generations. We started every morning with a long walk around the pond outside the house. It’s filled with ducks, egrets, herons, spoonbills, and a bunch of other majestic creatures. Holy shit, what a way to start a day. Then we would eat and write and eat and talk and stroll and write again. And each night ended with a film. It’s hard to imagine a better way to spend a few days. Thank you Ceara.
As for the tools, I got a Mamiya 7 a few days before the trip. The internet is full of photographers praising this camera, especially for its ability to shoot beautiful landscapes. I’m adding myself to this group. I love these photos. And I’m excited to have a tool that encourages me to shoot more photos out in the world. All of this while I watch snow cover the streets of Brooklyn out my window. Maybe I’ll go out there.
