E-collars are one of the most misunderstood tools in dog training. When used properly with conditioning, they can actually help shape behavior and speed up obedience.
ā Always start with proper e-collar conditioning
ā Use a reputable brand (we use Garmin Sport Pro)
ā Make sure itās snug ā if it spins, itās too loose
ā Find your dogās working level ā the lowest level they can feel
ā Pair it with commands they already know
ā The goal is for the dog to learn how to shut off the stim by doing the right thing
Used right, the e-collar becomes a communication tool your dog understands and can control.

Jerry just got here from the Netherlands and right now he is basically just handsome and confused. Great genetics, solid temperament, and still figuring out why kibble is suddenly tied to a job. This is honestly the fun part though, seeing the dog at the very beginning before all the reps, all the polish, and all the progress.

E-collar training is not some big dramatic thing when it is done right. You start low, pair it with something the dog already understands, and let them realize, hey, that was a little weird... but I still won. That is why it works so well. With the right conditioning, most dogs pick it up fast and do really well with it.
