If you know me, you know running has been my thing since high school. But as a public health advocate, I’ve always looked for ways to bridge the gap between my personal passions and community impact.
Last October, something clicked. My friend De and I decided to run the Philadelphia Rocky Run as a fundraiser for Special Olympics PA. We trained (very) quickly, hit our goals, and showed up in our disability pride shirts. The awareness we raised and the connections we made for the IDD community that day were surreal.
It was a lightbulb moment: we can do what we love while amplifying the missions of organizations doing the “heart work” in our communities. That’s how Team Inspire was born (with our cutie debut team shirts)
Today, we just crossed the finish line of another half marathon! This time, we ran for Exodus Transitional Community, a nonprofit creating vital opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals to thrive.
A massive thank you to Jen, Bella, and Nora from Exodus for this opportunity. Shoutout to Nigel, Derrick, and my sister De for fundraising this specific race with me. And to every friend, family member, and loved one who donated or cheered us on, you are appreciated more than you know.
