my dad unexpectedly passed last wednesday and it’s been a really fucking hard week. i’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the things i didn’t get to say. the trips we won’t be able to take. the time we won’t be able to spend together. but i’ve also tried to take comfort in the memories we were able to share. forcing him to film me do monologues for my “talk show.” being disappointed in the mets. celebrating the yankees losing. 8-year-old me trying to explain to my mom that dad is right, larry david is hilarious. going to disney auditions and then making fun of how seriously all the other kids took it. checking movie times in the newspaper. crying after g baby died in hardball. crying at the end of the iron giant. saying “that white boy can sing” after chester’s part in numb/encore. riding go-karts. arguing about kanye’s best album (he thought it was college dropout but it’s clearly mbdtf). that one time he thought he was gordon ramsay because he cooked a turkey in a bag. buying me a brand new bike for college. it getting stolen the first day i rode it. when we casually ran into the big show at universal. all the trips to the nike outlet. complaining about jacob degrom being hurt. sending me 20 minute long youtube videos that i “definitely” watched. repeatedly asking why i named ollie, ollie. me repeatedly reminding him he came with the name. him repeatedly saying, “well that’s a good dog name.”
