2025.
These #'s are a just testament to everytime I've shown up.
Multiplied by the times I've gotten lucky.
Subtracted by amount of times I've doubted myself,
On the basis of knowing how to use the formula to complete the question.
This year was a huge leap away from comfort and stagnancy.
I appreciate everyone on all levels, who choose to include me within their creative ideas.
With that being said-
Next year, I am aiming to be able to touch 200+ projects, on more succinct and impactful ways. Both as a engineer and studio facilitator.
I can't wait to hear what you guys come up with, living life in 2026!
1. Adjust your prerolls.
Start with a preroll based on the tempo and lyrics, then move it closer as the pacing tightens. Sometimes hearing a couple lines helps, sometimes it’s one line, or even just the last word if there’s enough space musically.
2. Comfort & performance are everything.
While listening through scratch takes and warmups, spend time understanding the intention behind the record with the artist. Whether that’s the meaning of the lyrics or simply where the energy of the voice should be coming from.
3. Use a mix of full passes and punch-ins.
Full takes can capture momentum and emotion, while punch-ins help dial in specific moments with more focus and precision.
4. Don’t overthink editing while recording.
Prioritize getting the performance first. Most comps and edits come together naturally afterward. And don’t be afraid to tune a note or two if the emotion and energy are right.
5. Gear matters- but only when it serves the performance.
The right mic chain, compression, and tone choices can elevate a great vocal, especially when they fit the genre and approach of the artist. Committing on the way in with things like a tracking compressor or driving a preamp in its sweet spot can do a lot of the heavy lifting before the mix even starts.
