April is the Armenian American Heritage Month and tomorrow is the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, this means Jay along with his co-editor @jessie__movies are going to talk about The Color of Pomegranates, that one Armenian movie he mentioned in last year’s Halloween Special. Before that, he invited two creatives of Armenian background - one is his close friend and another is a novelist who has his latest novel publishing soon. @_mari_lissa_ is a theatre actress while Joe Kassabian (of @lionsledbydonkeyspod ) is a military history podcaster with his gunpowder fantasy novel The Highlands Burn soon coming out. By pure coincidence, The Color of Pomegranates is about a real-life ashugh Sayat-Nova, and the main character of The Highlands Burn is named Sayat. Before going into Sergei Parajanov’s tableau vivants movie, Jay is going to ask Joe about the inspirations behind his upcoming novel. After that, we will deep dive into Parajanov's filmography, his influences from illustrated manuscripts, Armenia’s rich animation culture, and whether The Highlands Burn would be considered as “the first Armenian anime”? Jay would like to give some shout outs to cool Armenians he have met in real-life and online. Here is ETERNAL LIGHT - my slide photo projection project. A few years ago, I tried to pursue an ambitious still life photography project that involves extensive color lightings, human models, an overarching story, and slide photo film stocks. I chose slide films so that they look like stained glass windows from the church where each tells a piece of story with bright saturated colors. And it required some large amount of budget for additional equipment and materials to get this alive. However, I started to procrastinate and struggled to find a budget. So I scaled it down and made some prototypes with whatever I have with me but with a digital camera. However, for @phac.xyz 's latest project, I decided to revive this and changed the core story. It was originally about a resurrection and now it's pieces of memories stitched together. And it's memories of my family and my time with the members of Prospect Heights Art Club. It's a series of still life photos that look like a mix between collage and stained glass art. And so, it has gone off my hands and now moving onto a different one.
